Okay, I have an iPhone 4 right now and the touchscreen keyboard is driving me crazy. I had a Blackberry 8800 before I got this and I loved it, but was slowly falling apart. I really want to get the Bold 9900 because it looks great and I love the Bold keyboard.

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use my mom's upgrade to get Bold 9700 because I can't stand the iPhone keyboard any longer, then I can exchange it for the 9900 when it comes out. Tell me what you all think, thank you!

Just wait if you can, and use the upgrade for the 9900. Why waste it? If you want a Bold 9700 for now go to ebay.

8800 had a great keyboard. 9000 was a great improvement. 99x0 is even better than the 9000. Wait!

Definitely wait and if you must get one now, look at ebay for any decent used units of the 9700 or 9780.

i'd even say get a 9000 off ebay or craigslist to hold you over. it's a matter of 2-4 weeks (supposedly)

    could be a cheaper option
AND get you used to the bigger keyboard,

    Blackberry Bold 9000 | eBay

would be one low cost used solution

Okay, thank you all for the advice. I might just order one of the 9000 for the time being haha. I live in the states and I know that AT&T doesn't have a release date yet, but is it true that we'll probably see it in the next four weeks, though?

I don't know exactly but T-Mo might have around Aug.
Almost all Canada is looking at Aug as well.

We assume it is late August.

I'd still wait if I were you.

However, I'd sell the iPhone ASAP to get the most money from it. (Before iP5 comes out)

^^ see bolded part? REALLY IMPORTANT. The sooner the better - because if we have all these rumors circulating for blackberry, imagine the iOS/iPhone forums... must be crazy. It's unlikely that the new iPhone will suddenly be launched one day - that's not typical Apple style. Based on history they will announce a press conference a few days (if not a week) before it's supposed to go down, and then they'll do the press conference where the 'magic' of the newest iOS device will be showcased, followed by a future release date projected onto the screen behind Steve (including specific price points/GB variables/carrier info), followed by press getting to play with and photograph the device.

The point of me telling you this, is that... SELL NOW - because the price you'll get for the iPhone 4 will go down even during that interim period from when the new model is announced and when it actually hits the streets. You have some time, but that announcement could come any day - if monday morning apple said "we're doing a press conference a week from now", everybody will assume it's for the new phone, and i'm pretty sure the # of iPhone 4's on eBay will skyrocket.

I considered doing the same with my phone but I can still get $150+ out of it. You can do a lot better with your i4. I say buy a cheap backup when needed and sell now while your phone still has value. Say you need to buy a replacement 1 year down the road, it won't cost you nearly as much as what you would get for your i4 today. It is your $ so do as you please

if you want to get value out of it, it'd be better have the 9700 or 9000 as backup, unless you want the backup to be something completely different. Have you heard of eBay instant sale? it basically takes the work out of selling on eBay - eBay will buy certain items from you directly (and I assume resell later). You get a little less than an auction, but there's no guessing game on what the price will be. If you need $ fast, it's great.

Not sure which iPhone 4 you have, but look at what they're paying (exclude the original iPhone on the left) - those prices are real, assuming the phone is in good condition and you ship it to them with a charger. If you have a 32GB ... that's an expensive drawer-toy, lol.

great example: 314 days elapsed between the day I bought my iPad 1 ($829) and the day I did an eBay instant sale for $540 (I sold it the day the iPad 2 was announced). That works out to the ipad costing me $0.91 a day! Pretty good deal I think for a pretty powerful device. Today, the same iPad 1 model is down to $350 on Instant Sale.

on a side note, i did turn around use the $ to buy an iPad 2, which is going for a whopping $616 right now in Instant Sale. Really thinking of unloading it on there since i like the playbook.

I'd wait, from what I've heard, the 9900/9930 full size qwerty keyboard is the best yet so far from RIM...and like everyone else says, it'll be less than a month away for most major US carriers when the Bold 9900/9930 is released.

I have a 32 GB iPhone 4 and I don't really need the money from it. So, I can use it as an iPod for the time being haha.

I also found a BB 9700 for $85 on Craig's List. I don't know if I should trust it or not. I already talked to the seller through email and he seems genuine, but you never know over the internet... The sale says it's in perfect condition and that it only as minor scrapes and scruff on the sides. There was also a picture and it looked pretty legit. So, what do you all think? $85 is pretty cheap...

Some posters here have paid as little as $50 for 9700's if the guy just wants to get rid of it quickly $85 is a good deal if someone try's to argue him down he can make $75 and still come out pretty good.

I would meet the guy in public and look at the phone, you have the right to back out at any time if it isn't what he said it was.
