I started with 500mb, then ate through that and upped it to 2gb (next highest) I haven't gone over that. The data compression on blackberrys is awesome. I'm a heavy user too.

2GB is plenty for what you want to use it for. I have the 2GB plan as well and have never gone over.

I'd suggest starting off with a 500Mb plan. That's enough for most BB users. If by chance you find yourself needing more, I'm pretty sure your carrier will be pleased to let you step up to a larger plan. They don't tend to like decreasing a plan...

Also, take a look at flex plans, if available from your carrier.

My contract has 300 MB of unthrottled data included per month. Depending on my usage, I end up using between 280 and 500 MB per month. No WiFi, no YouTube nor music streaming, no larger downloads. So it is down to mostly surfing, mails, some document attachments and every once and a while an application from Blackberry World. I have to say though, I'd be happier with a 500 MB unthrottled plan.

I've got a 200mb plan, and above that I'm throttled. I travel quite a bit, and am a news junky. I'm a light twitter and FB user. I rarely break 50mb of mobile network data. Most of my time is spent on wifi, which I can usually find at hotels. As long as you don't do much streaming, I think 500 mb is more than enough. I only stream over wifi, and tunein is one of my favorite apps.

The low data useage is one reason I continue to stick with BB. The phones are not cheap, but the long-term costs are low. And if you travel overseas at all, berrys are extremely cheap to operate, comparatively speaking.

You'll probably barely chew through a GB a month with that little bit of usage. I use about 1.5 GB a month on my 9930. And I do a lot more than that.

My entire family are light users. We are on WiFi most of the time when we need data. 200mb a month more than manages for each of us.

Go with the 500mb data package, then you'll never have to worry according to what your requirements are. That's what I have and I don't even come close to it, I normally average 150MB a month. I have wifi at home and at work which probably helps. I do for travel for work about 200 - 300 km a day, I'll use blackberry traffic or google maps, also check twitter, my email, browse CB also pull up the odd youtube video while waiting on the road.

When I first got my data plan a few years back my provider had given me Unlimited data plan for the first 2 months for the price of 500MB just so I could see my usage. Maybe something you could try to get out of your provider.

I have been wondering if I will tend to use more data with BB10. I know with my PB I like to leave a bunch of apps open. I have an unlimited Verizon plan and pair with my 9850, so it has never been an issue, but things will changed. They warned me the two year upgrade plan is no more and unless I buy a phone outright my old unlimited plan will go away. I am not that heavy of a user on data plan. I usually wait to download larger files or stream until I have wifi.
What do all of you think?
Good question OP. Wulf .. you crack me up Ha! Ha!

I must admit that I was really surprised to see how little data my BB was using compared to the iPhone. On my BB 1 GB of data was more than enough and I'm a heavy user. On my iPhone I once reached my limit on 5 GB. To be fair, I reached the limit with two days left in that period, and it was jailbroken so I might have had an torrent-client installed but still. With your usage I would go with 500 MB - 1 GB.

This is a topic of regular disturbance. The answer has more possibilities, than a poll asking Irish to count their freckles.
