i have a data plan of 200 MBs a month...ofcourse when im at home, i would rather send the emails/download apps/browse through wifi...how do i determine which signal the 9900 uses when im home or abroad?

does it pick up the wifi immediately if its in wifi range (a la iphones?)

i dont want to see surprises by end of the month on my bill

When you're connected to Wifi it will show the name of the Wifi access point below your network signal on the home screen. I never leave Wifi and 3G running together all the time as it causes a major battery drain.

There is an app called Network Traffic Control in app world. I suggest you download that to monitor how much data is being used by you. It gives you breakdown of data used on the network and via wifi. It is pretty accurate.

As i understand, the phone uses wifi first if it is available, rather than network.
