help please! moving from 9780 to 9900 & don't wanna brick it!
• Çan anyone steer me round how to transfer & what not to transfer using Desktop Manager.
• I read a few months back os7 has issues with data stored from previous outside (like os6-5-4 ect).
• Has the problem been solved by os7 having recent releases or otherwise? FYI: the article I read previously was to port only contacts & use bbID to reload old fav's programs vs port using Desktop Manager. anyone's feedback would be greatly appreciated.
• I love my 9780, but want to be faster using the 9900 touch screen. Also, any issues with the 9900 & PlayBook being bridged? I'm looking forward to your feedback, fellow crackheads. THX ahead of time! - 11-09-2012, 06:16 AM #2
Re: help please! moving from 9780 to 9900 & don't wanna brick it!
Hi, I have switched from 9700 to 9900 in summer and I restored just settings + native data like memos and passwords from the Password manager, then I synced my contacts, calendar and mail via Google and restored SMS via BB Protect. I recommend installing apps from App World because you save some space (unused apps, support files, logs, settings etc) plus you get the latest version. BBM restored itself successfully after signing in to my BlackBerry ID, so I didn't have to use a backup from my memory card. Hope this helps you, good luck and enjoy your new Bold, it's totally worth the upgrade even with BB10 coming

Re: help please! moving from 9780 to 9900 & don't wanna brick it!
Just make sure you re-install your apps on the 9900 and NOT transfer them over. Also, make sure you upgrade your 9900 to the latest OS 7.1 through the Desktop manager.
You will be okay if you just transfer over messages, photos, contacts. DO NOT transfer 3rd Party apps. That will cause a major problem. - 11-09-2012, 11:49 PM

Many thanks to both replies! If anyone else has any insight, it'd be appreciated. Any hicups using a 9900 to bridge with the PlayBook?
»ruslan-botsyurko: when you replied & you said restore from "Password Manager", did you mean Desktop Manager? - 11-10-2012, 05:49 AM #5

The 9900 runs very well bridged to PlayBook. My pair runs many days without a single hitch. Once the 9900 is all set fire up the PB, connect the pair, and enjoy.

1UP on the clean transfer. Desktop Manager allows for that to be done also.
If you don't mind, I'll paste a list of what to transfer (in desktop manager, hit the menu and click Restore..., then click Custom and check one or more of the following that is important, such as calendar, address book (contacts), bbm, bookmarks, memopad, etc) and skip the rest:
Addressbook - All
Address book Options
Alarms
Attachment Options
Autotext Data Version
BBGroups (aka BBM Groups)
BIS acccount data (saves from re-adding e-mail addresses)
BlackBerry Bridge (only for Playbook tablet)
BlackBerry Messenger
Bluetooth options (skip for clean state)
Browser Bookmarks
Browser Folders (safe to skip if you don't understand what they are)
Browser Options (skip for clean state)
Browser Push options
Calendar - all (skip unless you use all the time)
Calendar Options (skip for clean state)
Camera Options
Clock Options
Device analyzer options
Diagnostic App options
Enhanced GMail plugin (skip if you don't use gmail, or don't need it at all)
Full-Predictive Options (basically direct or predictive keyboard settings)
HTML email options
Icon arrangement (for home screen, app folders)
Input method switcher options
Input system properties
Key store options
Keystoremanager
Mailbox icon management
Map global options
Map locations
Map settings
Maps
Memopad options
Memos (memopad)
Message list options
Messages (only if you have an @carrier.blackberry.com e-mail address you depend on)
Messagenger options (google, wlm, yahoo, etc. Used for IM apps)
MMS options
Mobile Network Options
Mobile Hotspot Options (leave unchecked if you configure it after OS update yourself, as I do)
NFC options (for NFC devices only)
Options (obviously what this is for, leave unchecked for factory defaults)
Phone Options
Phone Call logs (skip if not a necessity)
Predictive Multitap options
Profiles options
Recent contacts (e-mail autocomplete, safe to skip this)
Search options (universal search)
Service book (skip since your carrier resends them each time an update is done, only keep if absolutely needed)
Shortcut settings
SMS messages (only if you absolutely need these)
Sounds (sound profiles)
Spell check options
Spellcheckable options
Suretype options
Tasks, Tasks Options (skip unless you use that app)
TCP/IP (APN)
TLS options
Theme Settings
VideoRecorder options (Video Camera app)
WLAN profiles (Wifi)
Voice Activated Dialing options (only if you use this)
This gives you more options. You don't have to include everything, as it's only meant as a suggestion.Flamers, don't even try, I have my waterhose ready
GNU/Linux distros of choice: Ubuntu, Mint (or anything based on debian that's still geared towards beginners and isn't too bloated).
