Default Haunted Cursor !! Hardware Fault or OS Bug ??

I have an Unbranded 9900... Fresh out the Box i upgraded it to 7.1 (.391) and i notice that the cursor has a mind of it's own at times... I have checked with two other friends that have this issue,. One is using a Rogers 9900 and the other a AT&T..

It's really annoying and they have had there device abit longer than me and they said they just have learnt to deal with it..

I've been using a BB since the 7100 series,. and i can tell you that it finally felt good to have to 9900 in hand and to see how well it performs,. I'm just hoping this haunted cursor turns out to be an OS Issue and will be fixed. If it's Hardware related, then that's another low blow from BlackBerry not being able to get it right

Does anybody here have this issue ??

Did somebody say we just learnt how to deal with it?
    Yes. We did learn.

As far as I guess, it is a hardware issue. Most of the 9900s I have seen has this "unnecessary feature" and it is irritating a bit.

Have you adjusted the sensitivity on your trackpad? If it's set too high it will make your cursor act completely demented.

I never came across this issue. I think Qbnkelt above me is right. Try reducing the touchpad sensitivity.

I hope this is an OS issue.

If it's Hardware adjusting the trackpad sensitivity seems to remedy the problem somewhat..

I put my sensitivity to 70 and the issue seems to have stopped.. Heck, I'm going to drop it down to 60 just to make sure.

I guess I'll be using the touchscreen allot more now.. Grrrrr

I have searched but didn't find any links,. Can you send one please..

Damn you RIM ... The TrackPad was the Single most welcomed upgrade to a BlackBerry, But it has a terrible Darkside it seems ...

I've owned quite a few TrackPad devices (8520-9300-9650-9700-9780) and non had this issue, and i always had my sensitivity set to 90.. even from my TrackBall days i set sensitivity to 90.

Well,.. i must admit, turning down the sensitivity really helps the problem, this must be able to be addressed in an OS update...

as i stated, from my experience with both building hybrid OS's for myself, fixing hardware issues for myself and over 8000 posts/4 years of time here contributing, im tellng you there is no way the OS will fix the problem. the trackpads optical sensors are or become bad and no matter what OS you reload or what sensitivity you use, nothing short of installing a new trackpad will fix it. my reputation here speaks for itself. i had 2 9800's go bad and the only way to fix it was to replace them.

Well i get what you are saying, a TrackPad replacement will be the best and sure fix, but i'm telling you that since I've turned down the sensitivity the haunting has almost stopped completely ...

Also, do you know if the 9800 TrackPad will work in the 9900, I've about 10 on them at hand..

i doubt the 9800 trackpads will work since the PCB connectors are probably different. also, i turned my sensitivity down before too and it "seemed" to work, but the problem came right back almost within minutes.

The sun or uv rays seem to be affecting the trackpad. It does it in the sun in my area, I find it quite amusing.

Maybe use a UV protective cover for the trackpad? UV tape maybe. I think it would help allot. I'm actually considering it.

Well when i made this post my TrackPad Sensitivity was on 90, I dropped it down to 60 and i must say the Haunted TrackPad is behaving itself tremendously..

I only see it slightly moving by itself in email and on web pages.. Just a while ago i put it back to 90 and it was All over the place scrolling by itself, scrolling BBM, Scrolling App World etc etc.

Over the past few days i have definitely gotten used to the sensitivity being at 60, I'm thinking i should drop it down to 50 and see if the problem goes away completely..

Dropped my TrackPad Sensitivity down to 30 Problem is Gone 100% BUT .. TrackPad is really SSSSLLLOWWWWW lol .. i doubt i can get use to it as this speed.. But it's making me use the touch Screen a Whoooole lot more

And it's definitely light causing the problem as I put the Sensitivity to 20 and I shined a bright LED Flashlight over the TrackPad, and yep the Cursor started to Move.

I have the problem only in certain lighting, especially bright sunlight, and when my hair blows across the trackpad or sometimes the touchscreen. On a bright, windy day, sometimes it's a nightmare.
