Did Google pull google maps for blackberry? Because I can't find the link to download it anymore:(
They did.
Try this... https://dl.dropbox.com/u/35793161/Go...GoogleMaps.jad
thanks Phill.
The dropbox link doesn't work though.
It works fine. It's an OTA installation file, so use your BB browser. If you have trouble downloading, turn your wifi off.
Thanks again Phill!
This is awesome, thank you! I hate the BB Maps.
Before jumping at the chance of installing this app, anyone who is experience high data plan usage issues may want to re-think this. I discovered by accident that Google may pull in 20 to 30 megs of data or more per month FROM your device while the app is active.
This expensive lesson was learned at a time when I was receiving several hundred emails per day through multiple email accounts, while on a 10 meg/month data plan (my original plan when I purchased the device with no voice plan). 10 megs/month is fine or all that email (I found out later) but the Google Maps app is constantly transmitting your location information so that Google can create their traffic display overlay to entice more people to use the service and make more money.
The other downside of transmitting all that data to Google for free is that your device battery might not last as long as you thought it should, since the radio section will be in use more often. My data usage and battery life both sharply improved after deleting all the Google apps on my device.
Google Maps is still there for download from Google... they've just hidden it ;)

1) 20-30MB per month is nothing at all to worry about nowadays
2) A 10MB/month plan is a joke, many use more than that a day
3) Google makes NO money from us using their apps
1. Not correct. 20-30 MB can make a big difference for those of us who do not have cost-effective data plans available, such as VZWs current offering. 20-30 MB also made a difference for me after Hurricane Sandy, since that was enough to kick my data plan into the next tier, with no Wi-Fi available anywhere for half the month, and we had no other source of information in most of northwest New Jersey for most of the month. 20-30 MB can also be prohibitively expensive on international roaming rates, if youre not expecting it.
2. There no longer is a 10 MB/month plan available through any of the US carriers (and I had to switch to a conventional voice and data package plan when I moved my regular mobile number into this 9930), but its interesting that that example illustrates some of the original advantages of RIMs Blackberry technology (even though were not paying to much attention to it these days). Low bandwidth and low battery usage for routine email leaves more for all the other applications we may want to run.
3. Agreed (directly), but they do derive income at a higher level from advertisers trying to sell to the people drawn to the service, as well as all the analytic data Google compiles and sells about Google Maps users.
everyone start using this link and spread it around. its still there along with Voice and Search
Phewwww...close one!
Until they find out we figured it out. Haha. Hurry while it's still up!
Google search isn't working for me. Anyone else able to download?
I get this error:
"Sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support BlackBerry Quick Search powered by Google."
After Terms and Conditions it shows me a "serious error. Please exit and restart." Exit and restart does not help, still same error. :(
I get the same!!!
that error only started showing today, i saw someone reporting it in a group, and installed it to check, but yeah, that error is showing constantly
I wonder if google are blocking it?
I believe they are. Which is unfortunate as I understand that in some areas BB Maps doesn't work
I am getting the same error message. The Blackberry Maps app does not work correctly. I spend Monday driving around for over an hour because it did not work correctly. Does anyone have a suggestion for a alternative app?
jlc668 where you from?
Me either.... i'm in South Korea
Same "serious error" message here while trying to load the T&Cs. AT&T...

I've just installed a new OS on my phone and got the same error for Google Maps.. However, I have Google Maps on my 9700 running OS6 and it is working fine.. Strange..
