You shouldn't be getting a period for a single space... only double space.

Probably a worn keypad membrane, especially if it's been doing the same on multiple OS versions.

A period is a dot as you call it, not a space.

No worries.
Could be dust under the keypad, or a worn membrane like I suggested earlier. I get the same thing now and again, it comes and goes. A battery pull usually fixes it though.

This is happening to me now, more frequently than ever...I was hoping there was a setting in the software that would disable the "double-press space key for period" as I don't use that feature anyways, at least not on purpose. It's maddening since I'm constantly having to go back, remove the period and change the capital letter back to a lower case.

if you hold the space bar down for more than a 1/4 of a second it adds a period. try being a little faster with the space bar when pressing it.

I'm pretty sure all bbs do that. My 9000, 8520, 8320, and 9900 and torch all did that

Hold the shift key while hitting double space, it suppresses the period. You can actually hold the shift key and type as many spaces as you want, and then type a letter...the period will not be placed. It will be placed if you release the shift key and type a space after any number of spaces typed.

Try it.

Type G, "shift+space"(10 times) then H.
You'll get G, 10 spaces, H.

then try

G, "shift+space"(10 times), then type a space (without the shift).
You'll get G, period, ten spaces.

Hope that helps, it was annoying me too.
