I'm with SaskTel and since it's such a small company by comparison, I wiped my phone and installed the official OS to test this. 9900/7.0.0.261 (B1355), Platform 5.0.0.469. This release "officially" supports NFC for Verizon 9930! :-)
UPDATE: I have installed this update (from .362 released about a month ago by PTCI), and I have confirmed that NFC works in the "official" Verizon release. Direct download for Desktop Manager install:
