Dilemma
So, I have a bit of dilemma. I've had my Blackberry Bold 9900 for almost 8 months now. 2 months ago the phone nuked itself and I was able to follow the instructions on the website to successfully bring it back to life. Anyway.. 3 days ago the same thing has happened again. This time I can't seem to bring it back.
'Reconecting to JVM failed blah blah blah, cannot find device.'
I've tried everything and have finally came to the conclusion, it's destroyed.
I understand RIM give a 1 year warranty on all handsets. This is where it starts to get a little bit complicated..
So I was desperate to get my hands on the Bold 9900 when it was first launched. I was already tied in a contacts agreement with O2 for 24 months on my Torch 9800, this contact doesn't finish until October this year.
I ended up just buying the device outright on ebay. The phone (9900) was originally on the O2 network. 2 months down the line I got sick of O2's coverage and opted to get a Three simcard for better 3G coverage.
I have not been using my O2 sim for almost 7 months. But I am still tied to a contract with them until the end of October.
As the phone is originally with O2, would it be them I contact to get the phone repaired, or RIM directly? Can anyone see any problems with this scenario.
Hope you guys can help,
Kind regards,

Exact same problem as you.
I also bought my 9900 from eBay and it was also locked on a network (Vodafone). I took it back to Vodafone and they sent it in for repair (got a new one as they couldn't fix it)... I was quite surprised they took it in because obviously I wasn't the original account holder.
In your case, it shouldn't matter what SIM you use in the phone, it will still be under warranty and the provider will be responsible for repairs.
Problem you may face is that they might need the account holder for the phone before they will do anything.
It is worth a try though.
Edit: Just thought of another thing that could stop you from getting a repair from o2 - if the account holder's contract on the 9900 is finished.>> My Blog articles <<

I'm going to give it a try anyway. Because I still currently have a contract with O2 I'm hoping this helps.
I wish RIM's repair policy was better. A one year manufacturer warranty should be dealt with them themselves IMO. Regardless if it's a 2nd owner. I can understand them not repairing water-damaged phones, broken screen etc. But these software problems are an absolute joke.
