I have not found this issue posted so hopefully someone can help me out.

I have the 9900 (previously I had the 8900). I have previous used USB Adapters to charge my 8900 as well as a car usb adapter - no problems. The adapters go up to 240v and 0.15A. I figured I can just use all my 8900 equipment for the 9900, I don't want to have to buy all new things!

Once I switched over to the 9900, neither works to charge my phone - it always tells me that there is not enough power to charge the phone.

Is the power requirement that big a difference between the 9900 and the 8900 that only the Blackberry OEM chargers will work?

What's the minimum amp / voltage I need to charge this 9900?

what is output current rating of your charger? It should be line below the 240V/0.15A I'm having no issues even with 5V 500mA chargers.

it seems that unless I'm using an OEM Blackberry plug, nothing seems to "have enough juice" to charge my 9900 - even if the USB adapter I am using has the exact same specs as the original BB plug.

I tried another car charger that can:
    Output 115 AC, 60Hz, 20W

    USB adapater:
    output 5V, 2A

My samsung charger works great on my 9930. I have also used my old pearl flip charger with no problem.

My 8900 chargers did not work on my 9700. Had to buy a few new ones, trust those will work on the 9900. Also the iPad charger will work.

Thanks for this thread. I also have used my car USB port to charge my 9780 with no issues. Now with my 9930 I get the "USB/Sync/Charge only" pop up every 10 seconds and wont go away. It charges only a few seconds at a time.
    Any thoughts are appreciated...

Sounds like some of the old chargers do not actually meet the official min specs for the USB power standard. RIM as well as all other major cell makers agreed awhile ago to the micro-USB connector and it's power specs as the standard for cell phone communication and charging. USB 2.0 only allows for high power devices to draw 500mA at the lowest voltage of 4,75VDC. I suspect that some of the older BB phones had lower power requirements than this and therefore the chargers don't provide the full 500mA and/or when the phone tries to draw 500mA the charger dies and the voltage drops below the 4.75VDC.

When I had a Droid 3 and plugged it into my laptop it said it was charging but it actually didn't. I plug my 9930 into it and it does charge....slowly. I put it on the charging pod and it charges very quickly. As CanuckSolider said, older devices probably didn't need 5V in order to charge hence why the old chargers don't work with the 9930.

I have the same problem with newer blackberries and my playbook. I purchased this cable AgreenC and it works great with USB chargers and recharges very fast. The one I got has a micro and mini usb tail, I use only the micro but they don't make a micro only version yet and two tails is virtually useless to me as you can't use them both at the same time...

What are the ambient conditions? I had a torch fail to charge on a 110 day. Ordinarily it works fine even on a cheap ebay pos $5 charger.

I'm using BB Bold 9900 loaded with OS 7.0.0.353, not sure my previous OS version have this issue or not but I have this error message pop up stating when I plug in the original charger that comes with it stating something like not enough power or USB cable not inserted properly... etc... I have to reboot my BB in order for it charge normally... but after a few times, the problem will occur!
