been watching all the videos on the new 9900 BOLD, and everyone is gushing over better keyboard, thinner, faster, but not one word on the speakers? has any one from the reviews mentioned if this phone has the same killer speakers as the 9000 has? will be very disappointing if they are not.

Members here who already own the phone say the speakers are as good if not better than the 9000. I don't believe you should be dissapointed.

Many have mentioned this, and there's just the one speaker.

Reports say it's pretty good though.

that is great to hear. I love the 9000 sound, fantastic. i am glad they did not skiimp. I have the 9800 Torch and it is awful, sound wise. I use the speakers a lot and am constantly annoyed by the terrible sound . I wonder if the Torch 2 was improved. I want to get one of these phoes and the speakers will be a consideration thanks!

Agreed... i have ALL my notifications turned to 10 and i can't hear it sometimes..

i even modify my ringtones in Audacity and amplify the sound to make it louder...

although, this morning I watched a video of the full touch torch and they said the speakers were loud because they are showcasing the media abilities of the large screen.that is encouraging.

it does help a little, but as u know if u amplify too much it gets distorted..

so each file has a limit to how much u can amplify, you can turn on clipping so it doesn't go, but it really restricts how much u can amplify.

If you use a compressor/limiter effect on the audio (as opposed to just turning up the gain) you can easily play the loudness war with your ringtones just like the music industry does with CDs. This won't cause the wave form to clip (though speakers always have unique limitations with certain frequencies so you might not be able to play it at 10 distortion free), and is probably desirable for ringtones/alerts (though it's frustrating and terrible when people release music like that IMHO. )

I do this will all my ringtones. I don't do it with Audacity myself (I have a Cubase 6 centred home studio so I just use that) but anything with the ability to apply a compressor, or ideally a multi-band limiter, is gonna be able to make the average volume louder to an extent.

The speakers distort on the loudest settings (messege notifications at 10 for example) this could be because it's loud or it could speak to the quality. Personally I'd put them on a par with the 9780 but behind the 9000.

Are you saying them as in more than 1 speaker or them as 9900?

I don't know if it is my phone or not, but I played a video on YouTube on both the 9900 and my 9780 and the 9780 was louder (noticeably). However, the sound was clearer on the 9900 at max volume and more distorted on the 9780.

I have a question: the speaker is located on the back just at the base of the battery cover, doesn't the sound get muffled when the phone rings in the holster?

No, just a slip, as far as I know there's only one speaker.
