Any insight from those using a 9900/9930 now with its ability to open and view videos or open and read pdfs. Does the OS7 handle both or are their apps to supplement/enhance it's capability?

I believe there is an Adobe Reader app that will help you open pdfs on the 9930. If I can remember back to when I had one, I believe I used the app.

Videos there is a video player. Or if you mean videos from the web browser, that I cannot tell you for sure.

Mine came with 'pdf to go' installed and it seems to work well.

The video player works very well, and the browser integration is good. I don't have any trouble with youtube, and videos embedded on most web pages seem to work. The video player has a nice 'video size' feature that zooms in enough in fullscreen mode to do away with letter-boxing.
