Thumbs up Bold ::9900 disassembled + reassembled:: - lots of pics+clip!!

    Hey guys, remember me?

I had the 9900 and leaked those hands-on photos back in June . I have been fortunate to get my hands on a commercial released Bold 9900 from Rogers and I have been using it since last week.

Well, today, my team and I over @ BisVN decided to take it apart to see all the components inside and put it back together.

First, let me just say that despite a few minuses, it is still one of the hottest/ most sought for phones in Vietnam at the moment. There have been a few shops in Vietnam that sell them (not a lot) and the prices that they are asking for is outrageous, almost 1000USD.

We wanted to do it iFixit's style, and we are positive that we are the first group in Vietnam to even dare disassemble such high-price phone like the 9900.

Please check out the photos and clip (lot of pics)

Disassembling process begins - we used a sim card to peel of the piece with Rogers logo off. There's a small hole where the microphone is. Gotta be careful because this piece is glued on and we could easily break it

Using a tweezer to take out the keyboard

Next, it will be another 2 screws on the main body (highlighted in red)

The next step, **this step is very crucial**, slightly pull down the screen to reveal the last 2 screws!! RIM was very slick in hiding these last 2 screws behind the screen. And you have to slide the screen down as suggested in the above picture. If you try to pick the screen, you will break the screen

The screen is also attached to the main body by a cable, we need to take this cable off. Taking the cable off

The back piece - 3 highlighted parts are antennas for radio, wifi and GPS

The front of the main body - 4 highlighted parts are camera, MicroSD slot, flash light, and Sim card slot consecutively

The whole thing taken apart. There are only 6 screws in total!!

After taking the 9900 apart, BisVN put it back together and it runs perfectly

For more pictures and exclusives, head over to BisVN

Shout out to Dermaheal Vietnam for their support in helping BisVN to complete this piece

    Peace from Vietnam,

    Team BisVN

It breaks my heart to see a Bold disassemble this way.

But thanks for the "inside" view!

Very good job done. I could never believe even in my dream that I would treat a BB device this way.

    hey,

you could use this as a guide for future reference if you ever need to replace any part or component of your new device.

We simply showed you how to take it apart and put it together.

I thought it could at least be helpful to some.

    Regards,

    Khanh

I only see 4 screws from the pictures, but you mentioned 6 total. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the good write-up. I could definitely use this info when dust gets underneath my screen.

Good job, and nice pictures. This procedure is a little above my pay grade, but I will be glad to call on your expertise if ever needed

Doesn't look overly complex (not that I plan on tearing into my Bold anytime soon) and hopefully I will never need to look for this thread lol

    Thanks for the pics!

It won't help you, you'd have to lift the glass which requires heating up the glass and lifting it or using a suction cup. You can't easily separate the glass from the digitzer/LCD. You'd have to replace the two like I am as I have liquid under the glass.
