My 9900 works fine with the original 9000 holster. Goes to sleep when taken into holster and wakes when taken out. I even use the otterbox cover in my 9900. Did you check the BB settings?

^^^^What he said, my 9930 (Otterbox included) works with the OEM 9000 holster also, no problems
Try with the profiles settings. Usually they go from sounds and rings behaviour as with or without the holster. Then you can take it from there. Just a matter of tweaking and playing with it to customize it to your needs.

It depends on the case. The 9000 sleeper magnet is near the base of the case. The 9900 needs a sleeper magnet near the trackpad. Only 9000 cases with the case magnetic latch near the trackpad of the 9900 will work. I think they are called the Premium Leather case.
Unless the magnet for the latch is near the center seam, it probably will not work. Use a dime or something made of a ferrous metals and you will be able to find the sleeper magnet, which will be in the wrong place if it is a 9000 case. It needs to align with the trackpad.

OK, it does not align with the Center of the 9900 .. the Magnets are to the sides of the case.. one below the BB Emblem and one to the opposite side.
I have this with the Otterbox Commuter for my 9900 and it works perfectly.

Note how the magnetic latch is about mid way where it will be over the trackpad and trigger the sleep function. I have the same case, except in brown. They are about $8 on ebay and original BlackBerry Stock, made in Turkey out of real leather.
