How/where do I get 7.1.0.342 and can I use BBSAK to load the new OS
Post #12 of that thread has good instructions. Be sure to back up first with DM.
I usually wipe with bbsak. Then plug into desktop manager and it will offer the new OS as an update as long as the vendor file(s) have been removed.
Well I downloaded the file to my PC, but want to get more feed back. Apparently the the update for the 9900 isn't as good as the update for the 9930, if that make any sense. Further more I thought the 9900/9300 were the same phone just offered by different carriers? I'm gonna read a few more threads before I jump out the window on this one.
I couldn't get app loader to work it kept crashing, but in it's defense I am running Windows XP. No matter the update have there own installation program if I'm not mistaken.
You will get varying opinions about any update. The best way is to try it yourself.
For me. 342 is quick and battery life seems good. I stream slacker every night over ATT network for about 5 hours. In that 5 hours I go from 100% to about 40%. That's better then my 9800 did under the same conditions. I didn't spend anytime with ATT software so I can't compare.
After downloading the OS file you installed it(like a program) on your PC?

Yes, then the system tries to bring up app loader and that's when I get a crash error message. Something like app loader failed to start. But I've done this before with my Bold 9700 actually I reloaded the OS after the phone died one day. I know I used BBSAK to do it.
Try to get to the loader in :
Program files>common files>research in motion>app loader. In there you see the loader. That is also where you delete the vendor file at the bottom of the list. I think bbsak is just linking to that for you.
I have trouble using bbsak because BB device manager is holding the connection to my phone. Even though bbsak says connected I cant perform any functions. What I do is open the PC task manager, click BlackBerry Device Manager, end task then quickly click the connect on bbsak.
