So I've read that Blackberry has a new operating system coming out very very soon. However, I can't wait that long for a new phone. I need one now. So if I were to buy the 9930 with an OS 7, what's the chances that I can get the upgrade to OS8 when it comes out.
I don't think there is os8 . They are currently making qnx os base blackberry and your phone requires a dual core processor for it to run smoothly which the bold does not have.
At this point, we just don't know. It's safe to assume we won't though.
But there is hope. They said the 9700 wouldn't get OS6. But it did. So if RIM decides to work on QNX for a single core processor. They can. But that's extra work. And between getting QNX up and running smoothly, maintaining OS7 updates etc. Will we? I don't know.
But if you really want QNX. Just buy a 9930 and sell it when QNX comes out.
Guys, please, please, please use the search feature. Even if you just scrolled down a bit in the 9900/9930 subforum you'd find some variant of this question.
I'm not trying to jump on the OP, but this question is brought up at least once per day.
i find it silly that ppl with os n (where n = 4, 5, 6, 7 etc..) phones think that rim should be giving them os n + 1 upgrades when it is avaliable.. even though they purchased an os n phone....

Yea, but they should support the hardware they released for a year or so. I hate to bring up the iphone argument, so I'm probably not even going to go into it. Even the Nexus One I had, one year after it's released, it's still getting gingerbread. So RIM is going to release a new set of phones and in six months abandon the hardware? I know it's not stated anywhere that phone manufacturers have to support their hardware for a specific period of time, but it's just not a very good business strategy.
OK once more about OS7-devices and QNX.
@kawint: RIM supports hardware for a long time.
@jeffrey1027: No dual core required for QNX
@sf18443: Where?
@MikeFromCanada: You are certainly right!
So what's wrong about OS7? It does everything we need.
