    Hi,
i know that there are other threads on this, but none have a solution!
When ever i charge my phone, it charges for 30 seconds, and then the charging bolt turns into a black plug, and the phone charges no further. I have to sit by my phone and unplug it and plug it in again repeatedly just to keep it off red battery. The same thing happens in the charging cradle. This make my device unusable and i have to keep it turned off all day, and only turn it on for very short texts or calls as i have never got it charged above 20percent. I have had the phone 11month.
    Bold 9900 7.1.0.714
Yes i have tried wiping with BBSAK
yes ive tried other os versions
Yes ive tried updating withough restoring apps or backup file.
    What to do?
    thanks.

Time for a new battery. Also are you using the OEM charger that came with the phone? Are you charging using a PC or wall charger?

Ok, ill order a battery tonight then.
I get the worst results with the oem charger, when i use my 8520 charger it charges for slightly longer, and on the pc the charging is hopeless too.
Maybe if i get a new battery my device will be usable once again!

    I have found a solution!!
I had a old vodafone charger, not sure what it was for, it was rated at 5.3V 650mah, blackberry chargers are rated at 5.0V 750mah. The vodafone charger didn't have a micro usb port on it so i had to cut the old end off and solder a micro usb port on.
villa! my phone now charges. Looks like it must of been the extra 0.3V that does it...Interesting, but im happy it works now!

you might have a dodgey charging port, do all the chargers youve used work ok to charge the 8520?

Yeah they do charge through my 8520, but it also shows the black plug through a charging cradle so i know its not the port.
Im going to update now to the latest os and see what happens, ive tried .714 and the problems still there, but i know another os has been released since so ill try that

ANYONE? i know people have replied, but i still have no solution. How can blackberry just do this, i have no warranty, its only over a year old. I have tried every single os i can think of/find, its very time consuming but all i want is to have my phone back!! I am still on my old 8520 that i purchased in 2009...why cant the 9900 be as reliable as this one? i was thinking about selling my 9900 as spares on ebay, maybe only get 100 but then ill buy a 9780 or a 9000
    does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks

you could try a playbook charger, theyre compatible with blackberrys and have force charged faulty battery life phones for other people

does the battery still have less than 20% battery even when using an external charger for it? have you tried charging at a friends house to see if your plugs arent enough to charge the phone? the plugs at my college arent strong enough to charge my bold so it charges but stays at the same battery level

I had this issue with my 9860 and now with my 9900 using the OEM charger so I've been using my OEM PlayBook charger and it works perfectly. One thing I've also noticed is the outlet you are trying to use. For whatever reason the one in the kitchen will give me the black plug but when using the same charger in my bedroom it works flawlessly.

    Hope that helps.
