Do RIM have anything anywhere that explains there connection setup - as in what makes there servers decide they don't want to play anymore and drop to poll mode rather than idle mode.

Does it means that RIM will shutdown BIS/BES ?

I doubt BlackBerry would shutdown BIS and BES. There is still a lot of companies and users tied to those two...

Long , long time ago I used to have a Palm treo 180, quite old device nowadays. Anyway, some years after palm discontinued the device they announced that the proxy that allowed its browser to work will be disconnected. Bummer.

In might not have a blackberry for a decade, but I'd like to keep using my 9900 for some years ahead

it looks like downtime on the part of my mail server over a period of time, and then later lots of flapping is what caused the rim servers to take a dislike to my imap connection.

It happened again this weekend, the rim have never recovered an idle connection to my imap, neither does my email use my mx, its goes via rim...

If I delete & re-add the account on the phone it normally re-establishes fully and is fine.

I'd love to know what rim have set there servers to do... I'm going to leave it in its poll state for a few days (even though the email delay is killing me) and see if its going to sort its self out or not...

If not I might try & raise a case via my carrier to rim and see what they say.
