NO you dont have to do that, Li-Ion batteries doesn't require such a thing but if you would like to have a long life battery do not charge it till you have 5% and also dont force the battery to drain in an hour like others do, try to drain the battery in 3 to 4 hours. Or let it be by itself to drain out. i did with my torch and now i can rock a full battery whole day almost 9 to 10 hours.

Yes, you should drain the battery on the first few charges. You will definitely see a battery improvement. I just bought my 9900 few days ago and after 2-3 complete battery discharge, the battery last me more than 24h of normal usage. The battery life isn't that bad to be honest, you just need to configure properly (ie: backlight 10, upadate intervals etc). Also, it seems that OS 7.1 is much better than 7.0 in term of battery discharge. For those who complain about the battery, they are simply heavy users. Carrying a 2nd battery is the solution : no need to worry about the battery life anymore. PS: Blackberry 9900 is total awesome !
thnx, and can you charge the battery whenever you want? or would that be bad?

Well it would be better if you charge it at the lowest %. May I remember you that any rechargeable battery have a certain amount of recharge cycle, so you can keep it much longer ;)
just updated to official 7.1.0.342
How's the battery life on .342?
battery was excellent for me on .342. last me a day and a half compare to 7.0
I have the 9900 since friday and installed OS 7.1 on the same day. Does it take some time (couple of charge cycles) before you can see how strong the battery really is?
Maybe 5/6 cycles is better..
I took no such precautions and have excellent battery life. As in "I don't know how it could be better" battery life. As in "roaming on 4 networks for 8 hours and constantly hunting for signal and still ending the day with 40%" battery life. So my advice is not to waste one minute of your life worrying about it. Battery life is controlled by a committee deep within RIM. They decide who gets good battery life and who gets bad. I'm told the the decisions are based on looks. Going by my case this is apparently an inverse relationship.
