When I start my 9900, I see the following message every time:

"The backup file is corrupt. If possible, create another backup file and try again, or choose another restore option."

I click OK and the phone works fine. Problem is, I don't know where that backup file is coming from, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Protect in case that's the culprit. Didn't fix the problem.

Has anyone else seen this and is there a way to further troubleshoot, or do you know where the corrupt backup file could be?

    Thanks.

I received the exact same message after I installed the latest update to BBM (I forget the exact update # it was the one that came out 3-4 weeks ago). At first I wasn't sure what the problem was either but I soon realized it only happened after I did the update. The phone seems to work fine other than that. It was driving me crazy though so I uninstalled BBM and the message was gone after I rebooted. I haven't tried re-installing.

Hi Mariposa, well it's always good to know that I'm not the only one. I will try the BBM 'fix' and see if that works. Thank you.

I had this some time ago after an OS update and never got to the bottom of it - Since then *any* os update has left my phone useless and no longer a phone (The phone icon vanishes and it won't make/receive calls)

I've never bothered trying to raise a support ticket with my carrier as there default response is to wipe the phone, trash all my settings and setup from scratch (which does work)

Same issue with me. I downloaded update for BBM and I get "The backup file is corrupt. If possible, create another backup file and try again, or choose another restore option."

Any fixes to this? Is my backup file really corrupted?

    Thanks

I deleted BBM from my device and problem solved. I don't use BBM so no big deal but I thought I would pass this along. Problem definitely is with BBM.

Yup, same here - but did find that once the BBM had been activated / associated with handset the problem also went away, so if you do use it then it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm getting the same "error" message, but I'm not using BBM, and while it's installed,
I haven't yet activated it. So, I'm not sure why my BB would be getting the same message,
nor am I sure if my backup file is, in fact, corrupt, which makes me nervous.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

Got this same message after latest update to my BB 9930. Found that opening and configuring BBM took care of the problem.
    Hope this helps.

Since it is documented on the Blackberry support site it is not a bug, just an unpopular feature:
    KB34232

KB34232-"The backup file is corrupt" error dialog appears on the BlackBerry smartphone after successful BlackBerry Device Software Update

I had this problem as well. Deleting and reinstalling from BBW didn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled BBM using BlackBerry Desktop which fixed the problem.
