Auto-focus camera?
Is there any hope that RIM will launch 9900 upgrade with auto-focus camera?

auto-focus is a hardware thing. they can not upgrade 9900 with OF.

maybe a subsequent model, but not the 9900.

No. (or at least I highly highly doubt it, although nobody can really know for sure).
If you really want an autofocus camera, get the Bold 9790. Pretty much the same specs as the 9900, just a smaller screen and keyboard. Depends on your preferences.~SaMaster14 - 05-31-2012, 07:18 AM #6
I am thinking that the 99xx series is the end of the road for the series till the BB10 hardware arrives. So reworking the 9900 with a different camera is likely not going to happen.

If you really want to know why RIM didn't put Auto-Focus on the Bold 9900 see the post on my blog
Why doesn’t the Bold 9900 have an Auto-Focus camera? | Zamkato

You will never see a difference between 1.2 and 1.0.

I think the Java based OS is a done deal for RIM at this point. BB 10 will hopefully have better camera... so, I don't think there will be a 99xx refresh model.

Older bold models have AF. There's absolutely no excuse for leaving that feature out of their latest and greatest flagship Bold 9900/9930. Inexcusable!

But, people who work at the top of RIM have always found excuses. Look at the reasons they gave for not including AF camera on their premium line, Bold 99xx? If I knew that the camera is this bad that I cannot take clear pictures of my school lab results, I would have saved my money by keeping my Bold 9700.

Auto-focus camera?
RIM made a mistake with lack of AF on the bold 99xx. I think a lot more bolds 99xx would have been sold if it was with AF...
Recent announcement (first operational lose) is a direct result of this blunder.

Just get a digital camera or something because the 9900's continuous-focus (or w.e) camera is completely and utterly garbage and useless.

I've seen people post very good images of menus and pages using the 9900 camera, it can be done, it is just a matter of settings and technique. It isn't as convenient as an auto-focus camera, this is true, but what is done is done, and yet another question on a moot point is answered. The river is cried, time to build a bridge and get over it.

i know bb is getting a lot of slack for this but i dont think many people outside CB are really worried about AF or not. On most carriers websites if you compare stats it'll just say how many MP... a lot of consumers that i know of dont even know the diff. If they want a BB they'll get the 9900 if they want AF they'll get a 9790 or something else. If they dont buy a BB its not because of AF, its they want Andriod or iOs etc.
