So, I have auto brightness off, but the backlight still dims and brightens when I move from areas of different light levels. I remember when the 9630 first came out I had the same problem and it was later fixed. Can anyone else confirm this? Is it just a software glitch?

If you have Automatically Dim Back light unchecked it should not dim the screen. I'd check it, reboot, uncheck it, reboot and see what that does. A battery pull wouldn't hurt either. The only thing that dims/goes away on mine is the keyboard back light.
