Default anybody else dissapointed with the 9900 price point?

I'm shocked this phone will be $300 with a two year contract. Especially since it has no shot of running qnx. $600 off contract. Guess ill be parading around with a cardboard cut out version to go with the EVO. Was hoping to replace the 8900 since I sold my 9700. Dam shame!!!

Yep, I was thinking it'd be mid to high 400, maybe even low 500s for off-contract pricing

I'm disappointed. I certainly wasn't expecting 400, I know RIM likes to overprice their products, I thought around 500, but 599 american? In Canada, the total after taxes frightens me.

RIM thinking they are Apple here.

relax... they are coming out around the "back to school" period. Carriers need a high price so they can offer you "sales" and "don't miss events" and all that marketing BS.

That's true that's when they'll try to lure everyone in with those so-called sales.

This device at even 199 on a 2 year contract is still quite expensive considering the plethora of free and under 100 dollar priced android phones. If the quoted price in that ad is true, I think RIM is trying to gouge their loyal customers because they know sales will be poor aside from the BB faithful.

The end-user price is determined by the reseller, not the manufacturer.

USD and CAD are within a few percentage points on the currency markets today so there is unlikely to be a major difference. In fact I suspect the pressure to keep the headline price below a x100 rollover number will take precedence ahead of strict currency conversion for most resellers.

They think they are "Apple" huh? And like Apple is so fierce? NOT! Their junk is over priced just like anyone elses is, and it's people like you who have made them top off at around 80B in the bank now! There was an article the other day on "just how much does the iPhone 4 really cost?" A break down was done by some company that confirmed prices for all the hardware in the phone (inside and outside) and I believe the total was somewhere around 130 bucks! Yet the retail for the 16GB iPhone 4 is 599! So they are making a good 5 times more of what each phone is worth and pocketing it! I realize there is labor cost as well so ok, knock it down to 4 times...they are robbing people just like all the other "mobile" companies are and you all are falling for it.

Apple is only the company that it is now because of their mobile products, NOT because of their computer sales.

Don't cry now...you guys got them to where they are now.

I think we all are disappointed about the price for it.. I'm debating about if I should get one now, or wait, or no clue.

I live in the UK and Amazon.co.uk are quoting the 9900 at £519. That's ~$845! Two year contracts start at £40 per month but I'm not sure how many minutes, texts or MB of data you get with it. Probably not too much. So the west think they've got it expensive…

The pricing has been dollar for dollar US:Canada for the last 3 or 4 device launches.

What he was complaining about is that in Canada unlike the UK taxes are Applied after the price and we have about 5-15% sales tax depending on the province applied to the $500-$600 price tag, where the US average I believe is around 4% sales tax.

I recall paying approx $780 after tax for my BlackBerry Tour. by far the most expensive BB at launch.

I'd ask what your point is, but that would seem a little redundant, considering this statement was made in complete obliviousness to my point.

That would be the Carriers gouging

RIM can only give a Suggested Retail Price and a Lowest Advertised price they can not dictate pricing, it is actually illegal for them to do so.

The Carriers set their 1y, 2y, 3y subsidized prices based on what they think they can sell it for to maximize their return, on some of the CHEAP $100 dollar Androids they do this to get a customer who can not afford a smartphone into a smartphone with a slightly higher per month dataplan, the same was done with the BlackBerry 85XX series often going for $49 on contract with Free BBM and a data add on monthly and slowly customers would need more and the next phone would be the likes of the 9780

If we're talkin about Tmobile, it says $299 two year and a $50 rebate. So $250 sounds about right.

I'm sure it will drop to 249 or 199 after iP5 release

Who cares its a new phone many will grab it and be happy. As long as I am happy and it does what I need it to do I am grabbing it.

Many others out there have been using the crappy 9780 9700 and are itching for a new phone.

I think as long as it will make you happy, who cares about the price. Take away from your alcohol, drug, porn, gambling, prostitute funds and you should be fine.

I'm thankful I'm in no real hurry to upgrade from my 9630.. I'll wait until after the new year for this phone to go down on Verizon.

Haven't you ever heard of the term, "Money doesn't buy happiness" ?

There would be customers concerned about the price because if they have a budget they would want a price suitable to fit that budget....not all of us are filthy rich and can afford having 2 phones.

But since my carrier is AT&T, I'm sure my tone will change.
