I just switched over from a Torch 9810 and I know the 9900's have a past of bricking/nuking which ever one. I got the phone with os 7.0.0.585 and the battery life sucks and i hear 7.1.0.402 has good battery life but im afraid to take the risk. Im not a noob and I know how to upgrade without problem as I have been doing this forever. Any suggestions? Anyone took the risk?

Most of the bricked units were sold awhile ago, and most nuking issues are covered under warranty.

I would not be too worried about that. I would load this OS http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...canada-722351/

Official from Rogers is getting a lot of rave reviews. I have been updating mine almost weekly...LoL I am currently on the same OS now. .391

You'll enjoy it. As for battery life, I am not sure how you use your device. Use it normally for a week and see how much use you get out of it. You can always buy a second battery if you need it. Have fun with your Bold!

I have upgraded my own 9900 and several of my friends 9900. Never bricked a device because of this.
Never heard about people bricking their 9900 when upgrading, but I have not search this forum after it either.
But if this was really a common problem I think the threads would be everywhere

Great ^.^ thanks for the fast reply. I guess I'll download the official Rogers and see how that works out for me.

If you've been doing upgrades forever, why would you be so afraid to do it now? My phone came with OS 7.0.0.585 and it was a terrible battery hog, not to mention required a lot of battery pulls. If you read the threads on .402 or .391 you would know the answer to your question. Download either the latest release or the latest leak and install it! You'll be glad you did. (I'm running .391 and it's working fine. Just too lazy to change my sig again.)

Hehehe, we all have those lazy times. Hows the battery life on the .391?

I'm curious if you have used 7.1.0.342? If so, have you noticed any differences between .391 and .342? The reason I ask is because .342 is running great on my 9900 so I hate to upgrade unless the new OS gets even better battery life or runs even smoother.

I'm very happy with .391. The battery life is as good as it's ever been. I found .402 to be okay for battery life as well and I didn't experience any problems with it, but I just wanted to give .391 a try since it was the newest official release. I have no reason to switch back to .402, but when a newer leak gets released, I'll try it.

I stayed on .342 until .402 came out and stayed on that until .391 came out. I think the battery life is better on .402 and .391 than it was on .342, but it's subjective and not easily to measure. It takes no time to install .391, why not give it a try? You can always switch back if you don't like it.

I would but it seems to be cumbersome to switch and then get all my apps/settings/etc back to the way I like them. If there was a guaranteed benefit, I'd invest the time in upgrading. OS version .342 has decent battery life (all day use on a single charge overnight) so I am reluctant to switch.

I would make the switch. I had a lot of 9900's go bad on me, but my company bought them by the boat loads when they first came out. But it is better now.
