I see the carriers are still holding the price for the 9930 fairly high. I was hoping with the release of BB10 that they would lower it.
the iphone was going down soon after it was announce of the new one coming out.
Do these carriers know something we don't, in terms of BB coming back in demand. I'm trying to pick one up.

This is another big problem for RIM. Someone considering a 9900/30 probably wont buy it because its priced the same as a new iPhone or Android. Why pay $100-$200 for a Blackberry when you can get an iPhone 4 for free?

I payed $149 for mine over a year ago. Its no point for it to be the same price now. Since BB10 is on its way the 9930 should be $49.00 or Free with a new Contract.

The price should drop now, especially since the 9930 will not have the new OS. BB10 will make the 9930 somewhat obsolete.

I agree, they should but carrier are in the business to make money. Maybe as we get closer to the drop date price may drop.

Who determines the selling price at this point? Rim? Carriers? If the price is still high (relative term), that could be good news showing there's still demand even for "older" bb phones. Or it could be carriers are trying to force users to other devices since the carriers no longer want to share money with RIM (for bis or bes). Or do carriers think that most bb users are still business/corporate types who are willing to pay for the bb's out of corp money?

I know I got mine for free during Presidents' Day sale last Feb as an upgrade.

I think carriers price them this way to make Blackberry's less desirable. Especially considering a huge data plan isnt needed for them.

If you talk to the right rep on the right carrier, you can get the phone cheap or even free. I got it for $54 with a $50 mir making the phone $4 in the end.
