Hi All -

I had been looking for a non camera smart phone for quite sometime due to security restrictions at my work location and I have found this BB 9930 sold through Amazon US.

Although I am very happy with the specs, my only concern is "Will the phone work in India"? Some feedback on the internet suggests the BB internet services might not work even though basic call services would work. If this happens to be true then the whole point me buying this device becomes void. I would like to take some advice from this forum before buying one.

It works but you will need get 2G/3G services disabled by your provider. The only data service should be BIS

Check with your carrier to see what frequency they operate on but you should get 3G IF it is unlocked.

after three days of googling/chatting with vodafone chennai guys, SOLUTION FOUND.Now Unlocked verizon 9930, is working great.
Just request Vodafone operators to TURN OFF 3G,(deactivate 3G for your SIM).Then EDGE appears and everything fine.Once you activate the Routing table/service book etc, it will be fine.
Of course I did ALT+Cap+H and activated the Engineering screen and carried out as mentioned there prior to Switching off 3G.
I can confirm this, as initially when it was done it worked, but when I changed the sim from vodafone to another service provider, it went back.I was bit puzzled, but I requested VODAFONE again to deactivate 3G, it started working..with EDGE..
Hope this will give solution to many..

thanks for the research you guys have carried out. I am planning to buy the 9930 verizon unlocked. Could anyone confirm that it will it only work with bis plan or can the normal cellular data pack can be used to check mails/ browsing. Also, If I deactivate 3g services then would the BIS 3g stop working(in my old BB the 3g symbol comes along with BB symbol when it catches BIS 3g signal). Any other information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
