It's great that your phone is working well. The OP had many valid points outside of the lack of auto focus though. Their phone isn't working as it should, simple. They obviously DO have some kind of issue that they are asking for help with at this, a BlackBerry forum. Maybe you can share how one should "use this phone and it's os and appreciate it for everything it offers", although it's unlikely that will rectify the OP's problem.
Unless you have something constructive to add, what's the point? Unnecessary argumentative posts like this don't help anyone and only give pace to the negative opinions that it appears people are developing about what is a great community.
OP. You certainly have a lot of emails and BBMs coming in, presumably at very frequent intervals. I remember watching Kevin M's video where he added thousands of BBM contacts and it turned the phone to crap. This is newer hardware, but it has only a certain amount of capability. I realise this is a phone you use for work, but to determine if this is the cause, maybe try backing up and re-installing, but don't restore the email accounts and BBM contacts. Use it for a day and see if the phone works problem free. If it doesn't, must be a hardware issue.
Good luck. - 06-23-2012, 03:12 PM

I've been on about 4 Official 7.1.x releases now .. and it's basically the same. I wanted to give .523 a few days to settle in.
Gonna pull out my 9650 and use it for email and bbm in the mean time.. Gonna wipe and reload the 9900 and use it as you suggest for a few days and see..
Then again,. I might do that next week as i want to do a few more battery pulls on .523

there is a different application which shows you about the apps installed and used "now", today, yesterday, last week etc. for memmory, cpu and time (of how long a application ran)
I'm missing at the moment how it is called on the engl. version as I'm using a different language (and sadly you never really can translate this directly...)
Can please show him someone where he can find what I mean?
(if you understand me ^^)
no universal search, is activated? (I think it is not standard but you have to tick it on) - 06-23-2012, 05:16 PM

Something must be wrong with my OS (.391) because I'm not having any issues at all!
"It doesn't mean that much to me to mean that much to you" - 06-24-2012, 07:23 AM #34
yes I did. So direct translation would have did it in this case

RAM etc. is ok, better than on my device.

BBM is huge as expected with many contacts.
How long did you run this? (you mentioned you installed a new OS version currently trying to find a solution)
Do you have the issues still after a fresh installed os? - 06-24-2012, 07:33 AM

I don't think he has a hardware problem, or has an issue with apps. I think the problem is BBM and BBM groups.
In my country, BBM and BBM chat groups are extremely popular. And nearly everyone i know has the hourglassing and freezes especially for those on older devices like the crappy Torch 9800.
the OP DID mention he's pretty active on BBM... - 06-24-2012, 08:50 AM #38
I would have to say just the opposite and the hardware is lacking as most defects I see are from a hardware problem. I think that the newer OS just simple work around these hardware errors.

(Edit -- removed suggestion to wipe and install a fresh OS now that I see in a later post you have said you have done that)
Issues with the media card can cause very odd behaviors like you are describing. Trying running without the media card. If that fixes it, get a new media card, or possibly re-format the one you have.Last edited by southlander; 06-24-2012 at 08:56 AM.

BBM For sure gives the device a Hit,.. I think the Limit for BBM was once 5000 Contacts, it has since been reduced to 2000 .. When i see the hit is when i turn on recent activity in BBM... Almost on every click inside BBM is an Hour Glass.. So I've always had that turned off..
I work for a News, Media and Marketing company...
Hmmm.. Will try removing media card...
OK,.. After Restart See Screen Cap for Mem

After about 12hrs .. See See Cap Again,..

I just find it strange that on my 9650 os6 it handled the same 2000 contacts somewhat better,.. the device was laggy and slow .. but it did not hour glass as much..
Don't get me wrong the 9900 is super fast.. and i can live with the hour glassing as it just pops up for a split second,. but it's still somewhat annoying.. I just hope in newer OS releases the problem will be solved..
Gonna see if i can swap the device for anotherBefore you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes, so when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I know this is a BB forum, but it needs to be said. Those who use BBM extensively have the most issues with battery life, etc. Just tell people you got an iPhone and be done with it. Or get a different BB handset. I don't think the 9900 and BBM play well together.

I am having the same issues with my 9900 as well...definitely not a BBM issue as i have fewer than 20 contacts...i do get random hourglass hits lasting upwards of 1 minute, and also have freeze issues then what appears to be a rapidfire catchup, if that makes sense...i am beginning to wonder if my fresco os7 theme may be a culprit.....still lovin the phone though

Guys I have probs too, before the major one was the media stopped working all the time out of no where where I couldn't listen to music take pics or anything or even make a phone call so then it'd reset itself. I sent it back to RIM, they said the hardware was fine but did some "deep" resets to the phone and that problem was solved. But I still have to reset my phone or something every few days because it gets real laggy and a bunch of annoying bugs. But the main one is lag. Is it my media card?? I did have issues with it not playing certain songs although I reformatted it and got songs working now. I'm on .391.

Ya need to check your phone, I hammer my phone all the time and nothing like that happens, coming from and 8520, to 8700 and now 9900, this phone is fast and I multitask like crazy!

I have had this problem myself with many different Blackberries, (The spinning hourglass) and I found a solution that seems to work, no matter what model it is. (Worked on my old Bold 9000, and on my Torch 9800, plus my daughters Curve running 7.1)
I seen a couple people mention it could be the media card. That is exactly what I found, by pulling the media card, my BB became so much faster and stable. But I know the media cards are good. So after doing ALOT of research into this, I found this is actually a common problem with Media Cards in Blackberries above 4gb (Might even include 4gb). the problem is NOT the card itself though. It is the Compression Option that causes the issue. If you open your Storage/Media Card setting in Options and disable the 'Enable Compression' option you should notice the problem of the spinning hour glass goes away or at least reduces in occurrences drastically, to the point that using your BB becomes enjoyable again!
I have found in rare occasions that the file system becomes corrupt on the SDCard, in this case, backup all your files to a computer, format the card, then put everything back on.
Hope this helps, I know I have been doing it for everyone I know with a Blackberry and they have all commented on how much faster their BB feels now."I need to do extensive reading on this complex subject before I give an educated opinion." -- Web comment that has never been madeThanked by:shemaree09 (06-25-2012)
