Default 9900 Hardware ROCKS !!! OS SUCKS !!!!!!!

Love Love Love my 9900, Best BB I've owned to date,. And Ive owned a Few.. In terms of the Hardware other than no Auto Focus and the Haunted TrackPad I'd Give the Hardware a 9/10..

On to the Operating System, I don't even know where to start .. kmt .. It's basically annoying to constantly hour glass, constantly get freeze ups, constantly get glitches,. Just too many little things that annoy the crap outta me..

RIM I know all focus is on BB10 .. but seriously you need to fine tune OS7.1 to work with as little issue as possible...

    Sigggh...

Never suffered any of the OS problems that you are encountering and I have used every single Leaked and Official OS that has been released with the exception of .437

I suspect that it is probably an app that is causing your problems.

I would suggest that you do a wipe and clean install with the latest .523 and see how the phone performs app free.

Assuming that it is all OK then start to re install your apps one by one. If you do it that way it will soon become apparent if it is an app that is casuing your issues rather than the OS.

It has to be your Apps, not the OS. There are a bunch of us that never see an hour glass on our 9900 with the exception of maybe when using AppWorld to download Apps.

If you came from a previous BlackBerry, make sure you do not bring over any older apps. Limit you apps to just those available on AppWorld. Do not use any OTA apps unless you are really sure they are OS7 Apps.

I also tend to avoid free apps or granting third party apps broad permissions. Free apps are free for a reason. They are either mining your data or serving you ads, both of which can be chewing up cpu cycles and data.

Hummm, I have NONE of those problems with my Bold 9930, I'm using Sprint OS7.1.0.267 and my 9930 is running smooth as a babies bottom. Maybe trying another OS7.1 might help your issues.

I have no outside third party Apps Installed, My 9900 is for business & Email... Only Apps i Have BBM - Facebook - Twitter - MSN - APP World ..

I have 10 Email Accounts coming into the phone, so i don't know if that's an issue, if it is then what's the use ??

I've to reboot everyday.. I always Wipe and Re-install .. I just installed .523 and have the same Issues.. I've the new App Monitor running and it's finding no app causing memory leak or battery drain.

Hmm, sounds like it may well be a hardware issue given the apps you are running. Really can't see it being an OS problem.

As Robsteve has said, the "spinning clock" should not be putting in an appearance if your 9900 is running properly.

Hopefully you are still in warranty as your 9900 is definately not behaving as it should.

Is maybe your trackpad problem causing a slowdown?

Since you just got the phone, get it replaced for the trackpad problem and see if a new phone fixes the problem.

Somebody more experience may be able to comment on the email accounts. Ten may not be a problem, but the volume of messages may be. For example, if you get thousands of emails a day, the phone would be spending a lot of time downloading email.

.523 Seems to have rectified to TrackPad issue,.. I can put the TrackPad Sensitivity on 100 and it's not running all over the place like it used to.

I get about 100-200 emails per day..

O yea, Forgot the mention .. I have 2000 BBM Contacts (I'm in News and Media) So i suspect that also maybe causing the issue..

But then again I had those contacts on my 9650 just the same...

If you are in News and Media,it is a tool of your trade, just get the phone replaced by your supplier or IT guy. You probably have a hardware fault.

I still think that you have got a bad unit, try and get it replaced.

The 9900 should cope with what you are doing with it if it not faulty.

Hmmm I really like this OS. Its pretty fast But my only complaint is that a lot of the menus are a little convoluted. I don't like comparing BB to android, but in this instance, android interface is a little easier when it comes to settings and finding things. That said, I wouldnt trade this phone for anything else out there. BB is the best OS in my opinion because its unique and the newest Bold is lightening fast compared to its predecessors!

    you do obviously something wrong.

I mostly have no hour glass at all esp. since 7.1. (so about half a year now...)

2-3 weeks without restart is normal (some apps do need a restart after upgrade... )

I have very often 5-10 tabs open in the browser, everything is very fluid and quick responds (and I don't mean just mobile sites, "real sites" as well) even with more tabs open.

but of course not all is perfect.

Apps are missing (skype etc. or thirdparty apps in general were I'm living, e.G. coffeeshop X have apps for Android or iOS to easy order and buy there etc. combined this is really anoying)

Even the battery life issues I had are gone.

With 0.296 I got ~3% hourly battey drain in idle. OK but not good either.

With 0.5xx it got very worse from 5% to 8% hourly drain idle.

Also some early 7.1 were not helping till I got 7.1.0.342 and deleted a few apps (fixmo tools esp. which was not the issue on .0.296 and .0.590) and have now 1% max 2% drain per hour in idle.

My issue is BIS it self as it limits my options with providers and so my Plans are more expensive as it could be (and should be)...

I can;t speak for the 9900 buy my 9810 is running OS7.1 perfectly. I get a full day out of the battery and have no problems at all under .391.

This has to be the OPs apps or, the OS needs reloading.

I haven't read all posts so with 2000 contacts and probably always incoming messages, IMs and mails, have you checked how much free RAM/memory you have? even BBs are no toys, but high usage can slowing it down, too.

How many emails are saved on your device? (not sure if this can be an issue with BES, most of the time I'm a BIS user, ~15k emails saved on the device - password protected definitly )

    Or setup of the mails?

if you receive a lot bigger emails with picturs etc. and setup that it is downloading these instantly this could slow the BB down sometimes.

If you running 7.1, the analyzer app can be helpfull to see how many processes are running.

i don't understand why people even take a second out of their lives to and moan about this phone. you must lead one boring life to waste this much time. number 1, no one cares whether u like it or not especially when you have not a single valid point outside of the lack of auto focus. i don't get any hour glassing, i get no freezing, there are no glitches on my os, everything works how it's supposed to and when it's supposed to. and i have no other internet besides my 9900 so I'm on this phone from morning to night messaging, emailing, tethering and talking, hence three batteries. an iPhone (and I've had the 4) would fall apart if i tried to use it as i use my 9900. And number 2, until you learn how to use this phone and it's os and appreciate it for everything it offers AND how fast you can get things done on it, please be quiet. or just go buy and iPhone, but stop talking. you do no understand what this phone is about and what it's used for or even how to use it, so there no need for you to make goofy threads that annoy me.

I have had my 9900 for 3 months, upgrading from my Bold 9000. I had the 9000 for three years. A great phone, no better phone to carry a conversation on but it was limited on application memory and I was always having to remove programs or experience the spinning clock. I have 5 email accounts on my 9900 and more programs than my 9000 could have handle but the only time I experience the spinning clock (hour glass) is when I download and run an App that is not well designed or when I download a program from BB App World.
