- Long story short, my 3600mAh aftermarket batteries don't fit the car cradle in my truck. I left those batteries with my crew embroiled in an intense plant start up and drove off with only oem batts with me. Later last week, at another jobsite, i wound up wishing for bigger batts and noticed 5000mAh batts on ebay. Out of respect for CrackBerry store's oem battery offerings, i won't post a link but it's easily found by search.
3 new 5000mAh batts caught up with me at a hotel Tuesday and i put one of them in a stand alone charger overnight. Popped it into my 9930 Weds morning, with a healthy dose of skepticism. I don't have any 3600mAh batts with me to compare but these 5000s don't seem much thicker, if at all. I really like the added grasp the protruding battery cover provides. See photo with my ugly mitt.
Now, Saturday afternoon, I'm still trying to run the thing down for it's first in-phone cycle. I realize the battery gauge on the 99's home screen might not be accurate but see attached photo. My 3600's would normally be ready for swap, by now. This thing still seems to be going strong. Still skeptical but we'll see. Still carrying plenty of spares JIC. No way to truly test mAh rating, here in the field, but as a "sanity check", it has already lasted 4 days and might make it to 5. We'll see. Pretty much proportional comparison with the 3+ days i get with the 3600 rated batts i'd been using. That 3600 endurance was pretty proportional with the 12-20 hrs i might expect from the 1230mAh OEM.
I should mention that my 9900 is currently providing mostly "backup" duties. Pretty steady sms-mms-email and a little voice with my crew but most voice and surfing duties fall to my Classic, these days. I doubt the batt will last the night now but we'll see.04-19-15 11:35 PMLike 0 - Day 5. Pretty much done. Just waiting for it to die on it's own. Dunno how accurate their ratings are but this 9900 has been running on this battery since Weds morning. Longest endurance i've seen on a 9900.
Further info: OEM batt measures 0.155" thick. 5000mAh "rated" ebay batt measures 0.425" thick.

MPJ 5000mAh Extended Battery Door Cover for Blackberry Bold Touch 9900 9930 | eBay
$23 and delivery was pretty quick. These are much thicker than the Gold Japanese batteries and definitely take up more pocket space. Given the endurance, you might consider getting-by using just one of these as a daily driver and pocket carrying the more compact Gold. OEM works fine with the extended cover, IMO.
My routine is to use 3 batteries. One in the device, one in the stand alone charger and one in my left pocket. Spent batt goes in right pocket till it gets swapped with the stand alone charger. Just my routine.
No clue about long term quality but certainly more endurance than the Golds. My Golds fit in pocket nicely, tho.04-20-15 05:31 PMLike 0 - Well, here's a link to the ones i got.

If it's way before that, that is what I experienced with extended batteries. It got to the point where it would NOT fit inside the enclosure and broke the battery door(s) that came with it. That and not risking ******* up the battery when "venting" it safely with a pin at an angle. :/
I've used various extended batts in my 99 over the years. Some are junk. Some are great. Like I said, I've only used these for six days so far so... No clue, yet, if these are junk or great.
All I can say, so far, is the first one powered my 99 for five days. A first, for me.
I'll continue to use & report. They ARE eBay batts from someone I know next to zero about so... Use at your own risk.04-20-15 10:27 PMLike 0 -
- HOLD THE PHONE!! (pun intended ) This third battery appears to be weak also. The first one provided an impressive 5 days of endurance. I swapped out the second battery after it had been in service for only two days. Device usage and signal were, mostly, pretty similar to the first 5 day test. Seeing that the second battery is clearly running down much faster than the first, i swapped in the third one last night. It doesn't seem to be discharging quite as fast as the second one but seems to be discharging faster than the first... in other words, there seems to be quite a variation from battery to battery... not good.
I'll continue to run this battery to shut down just in case there's a calibration issue with the 9900's battery indicator. Will report.04-22-15 08:50 AMLike 0 - Update not good. Two of the three are "junk". Much better than OEM but about the same as the 3600mAh extended batts I've been using. That first battery is a real HORSE. Showing every sign of 5 day endurance, AGAIN! Maybe even a little more this time. Will report.
Maddening thing is only one good one out of three is abysmal odds. I'm going to contact the seller. I'd REALLY like to get two more like the good one. Will report.Last edited by idssteve; 04-24-15 at 12:02 AM.
04-23-15 11:43 PMLike 0 - Some batterys may require several charger-dischargers to get full capacity . I Bougth a gold type battery from a reseller
and the first 4-5 chargers the average use was about 10-20 hours less than a few chargers affter. So keep in mind this.
Some resellers sell standard 1200 mAh capacity batterys (mainly gold type) with a 2430 label and thats a full fake, so
every one purchase those type of batterys have to be caution.
Those batterys XXL size normally are double capacity, but triple.. Any way some batterys are better or worse than others
without any real sense.04-24-15 04:36 AMLike 0 - Some batterys may require several charger-dischargers to get full capacity . I Bougth a gold type battery from a reseller

How much longer in duration would you say he "weak" batteries are compared to the OEM battery?
I'm hoping to at least double battery life even if I do get a weak one. Hopefully it's possible.05-03-15 12:12 PMLike 0 - Hey idsteve thanks for testing the batteries. I'm looking to get an extended battery for my 9900 too and am not sure which to pick.

If you get lucky and get one like MY "work horse", you'll be thrilled with the endurance. Keeping close watch on it so co-workers don't snag it, tho...SlcCorrado and 1TIME like this.05-03-15 12:30 PMLike 2 - The weakest one seems about 2-3 X oem. Maybe a little more. If that helps. Somewhat subjective since usage does vary some. I have some help here in the office testing these and we also have capability to measure actual mAh here. Maybe update later this week??

Got paint marker initials on it. Others in the office have ordered some for themselvs and are "testing" mine in their 99s. Hard to get good comparison when used in multiple devices. We're deeply buried in another plant startup and are trying to use our Classics for this one so 99 testing is kind of slowed for a while. Sure miss the 99's ability to battery swap to "full charge" over a 5 minute break. Management and client wasn't too amused when i asked for longer breaks to charge our Classics... lolMr4aces likes this.05-09-15 04:09 PMLike 1

Another in my crew seems to have gotten a "Clydesdale" so there's more than one in the world. . Odds seem to be about 30%... Fwiw. Our IT guy is researching the source so we'll kno more soon.05-16-15 08:51 AMLike 0
