Where's the excitement?
This is a MAJOR release for RIM. The iconic 9700/80 successor.
I'm about to take possession of mine on Tuesday. I'm a little concerned at the lack of buzz about this device. - 01-01-2012, 04:20 AM #3
the reasons why there is not much hush about the 9790 is that it has been launched in the US and carriers in Canada are not advertising it much. Give it some time and it will be on top of the charts

Just watched an unboxing on YouTube. No case comes with the phone??
I'm hoping that was just the Indonesian version .... did anyone else get a case? - 01-01-2012, 08:23 AM #6

I heard barely a whisper about the 9780 as well. I didn't even know it was out until I stumbled across one at a phone kiosk.

That annoyed me too...I so much wanted this phone before Xmas and new year to go around but realised I won't be seeing it till mid to late jan ... The girl at carphone warehouse almost made me buy the 9780 saying that I can always upgrade the OS from 6to 7... She actually owned the 9780... Guess she was confusing upgrading the OS build version as against the actual OS,

Luckily the forums out here saved me and I found out how great this phone is...just wish RIM would have released it before xmas, im sure they would have made a tidy profit from those who have now instead chosen to buy an android or iPhone rather than buying an outdated 9780...
I'm waiting to buy one from India as I'm going there on holiday,..just hoping I won't end up with a shoddy build quality as many claim on the other thread.

when you buy the phone, inspect it there and then at the dealer. use it for some time check for the traditional BB problems, tilted trackpad, loose bezel etc. And also keep the bill etc in a safe place, BB's sold in India have a 18 months + warranty. If any problem crops up you should be able to get it repaired under the warranty.

yeah, the launching of the bold 9790 has been "shy" to say the least (except in some of the far east countries)
guess the logical reason is that RIM dont want to overshadow the bold 9900, .. its their flagship, .. and the 9790 is a very close competitor to the 9900! they dont want to challenge the sales of the 9900
If I am not following tech news and this forum (crackberry) i would have gotten the 9900 long time ago .... , ... even most of my blackberry abusers friends are un-aware of bold 9790, .. whenever i mention it to them they are like "loool noob do you mean 9780? because there isnt such thing as 9790 as of yet" ... most of them arent tech savvy though, just to be fair, .. but still. - 01-08-2012, 11:28 PM #12
This is definitely not a major release as said above.
But i get what you are trying to say, and you are right. However, lack of availablity and exostance (in us ) lol is keeping this away from consumers. - 01-16-2012, 09:33 PM #13
After hours of reading and comparing on the Internet, I decided on this model and when Telus put it on sale for half price ($49.99 instead of $99.99 on a 3-year contract), I decided to go renew my contract.
I didn't even see the phone on display, so I asked the manager and he went and found one in the back. At first he suggested that I was probably looking for the 9780 or 9800. Anyway, went back and looked and came out with it and I asked to confirm that the sale was ending the next day (and not being extended). He told me it was not on sale, just the regular price. He had to look it up on the computer and then he saw it, but he didn't know anything much about it.
I've had it now for almost a week and I am very happy with it. I kind of bought it as an accessory to go with my PlayBook, but I really needed a new phone anyway.
