Please Help! Bold 9790 frozen in software update

Hey All,

Please be gentle, I don't really know much about technology.

My problem is my Bold told me I had a software update, from 7.0 to 7.1, I ignored it for a while but the phone was running slow so I thought it might be because of that and I clicked download.

Took all of last night to download the update, then this morning it said it would need two hours to install it, during which I couldn't use the phone. I clicked install, it shot up to 17% overall backup process and then froze with 0% social feeds.

Now I went online and gather I'm not the first this happened to but nothing I've tried seems to be working. I take out the battery - it reboots and goes back into the update. I downloaded the desktop manager cause some people suggested to go through that and custom update without social feeds clicked, but when it connected to say it found my phone, it got stuck backing it up itself. So I can't do anything through it.

Basically a software update I didn't particularly want or need appears to have rendered my phone useless.

Can someone suggest something else to try (in very simple terms cause I don't know what I'm doing!)

Welcome to CrackBerry!

Before anyone gives you instructions on getting the OS installed, did you use BB Protect or a backup app from your carrier? Getting yours functioning again will probably require removing all data that's currently on the phone, ie settings, address book, BBM contacts, etc.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I've managed to update it via the desktop thing - all I lost was my contacts, happy days!

Excellent! Please do yourself a favor. Start making frequent backups via Desktop, install BB Protect on the phone, and read all the fantastic info on CrackBerry. You can always PM me too.

Thanks, I will definitely start backing it up on desktop.

I do use bb protect back in the UK but I'm living in Lebanon at the moment and it stopped working with the local sim I put in the handset :/

Can I ask you, I've been re-customising the phone and I seem to have lost all the languages on it, it's just English US there now, is there a way to get them back?

You'll need to install an "All Language" version of your current OS on your PC, use http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...-files-709738/ to remove the vendor files, so the PC recognizes it, and then run Application Loader on Desktop. If you type "myver" here using your phone, I can find and link you to the download.
