Default Just got the Bold 9790!

    Hi everybody:

I've just got my SIM free Bold 9790 yesterday. It has been a difficult choice between this and the 9900, but in the end I went for the auto-focus camera, longer battery life, and smaller size (and price tag). Besides, I have a PlayBook already so the smaller screen is not a big deal.

I'm happy with the device so far, it's sexy and fast (specially if you come from a Storm 9500) and my keyboard usage is improving as I use it. I'll come back with a report of how I feel after some time.

Call quality is very good, as well as audio quality, including music. The touch screen is nice to have, even if the trackpad works so well that I find myself alternating between the two.

I must say that sometimes reading the forums you get scared because of the negative reports... my device doesn't show any defect. The lady that sold me the device told me people are quite happy with it. I did know BB are quite popular here in Spain among younger people, because of the social networking capabilities and free BB messenger, but it's nice to have the opinion of someone who sells it (specially when the alternative was selling me a more expensive one, since I was asking also for the 9900).

Apart from any defective unit, I have the impression that some negative reviews come from people that buy the device for the wrong reasons, I don't intend to use this device for extensive web browsing, if I wanted that then I would go for something else. The 9790 seems to be very good at what it was designed for. In any case, I'll come back after some time, since I'm too excited now with my new gadget and only extended usage allows for an accurate impression.

Something to say: RIM announces BB Traffic for the device and it's not available for it, maybe someone just made a mistake in their website.

I'm posting this from the 9790 using the Crackberry app.

    Kind regards from Madrid,

    Jose.

Congrats on the new 9790, Jose! You're right, it's a great little device and it does everything it's supposed to perfectly.

Unfortunately BB Traffic is only available in the US and Canada at the moment. Hopefully it won't be too long before it's available here in Europe, as I'm also looking forward to using this app.

Congrats! You'll love the phone. I was torn between the 9900 and the 9790 but went with the 9790 due to auto focus and I got used to the smaller size from using the 9700 for a year.

i got my 9790 last week as an upgrade from 9700. The only draw back i can see on 9790 is the short battery life compared to my 9700.

    Everything else is perfect!

I too am happy with the 9790, particularly after the 9900 experience.
I would have been happier if OS7 with touch screen was accommodated into 9700/9780 with their larger (original) battery.
9700/9780 was thicker but it fit well in my hands. 9790 is thinner but of rather weird shape and RIM should not have made it thinner for the sake of thinness.

But now with an Otterbox Commuter case, it's perfect.

Congrats for your new Bold José, the 9790 is a quick and elegant smartphone!

First of all, you should install the 7.1 OS to your mobile phone. Then you could use the "Hotspot WiFi" (use your mobile as a Wifi hotspot) and also it enables the NFC.

    Cheers from Barcelona, ;-)

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome. Biulet: I installed the official 7.1 already through DM, but haven't tried the hotspot feature yet.

    Cheers,

    Jose.
