Guys, should i get 9780 or 9790
these are my main concerns
1)browsing experience, yes i will use it to surf the net, do the browsing speed of 9790 faster then 9780 a lot?
2)battery life, yes i have seens thousands of threads and i knew battery life of 9780 excel 9790, what i wanna know is whether 9790 can survive for 2 days upon upgrading to os 7.1?
3) i heard i can use normal plan other than bis/ bes to use the bb browser by changing the service book and whatsapp is totally fine , can i do the same in 9790 os 7.1? i heard some ppl saying they got to reboot the phone for using whatsapp under normal plan.
these are my main concerns, thank you for spending time on it

Re: Guys, should i get 9780 or 9790
9780 simply because of the battery
otherwise, everything in the 9790 is better / faster
you have to weigh out the plus points minus the negatives
with the 9790, you have to charge it daily. With the 9780, you can easily go one day without charging and last about until the second half of the second day or more if you don't constantly use it - 10-27-2012, 04:53 AM #3
Re: Guys, should i get 9780 or 9790
I agree with BullGard8 in that the 9790 is better/faster and that the 9780 battery is better. I could not make up my mind so I have both. I like the 9780 form factor better than the 9790 because the 9780 is fatter and feels more comfortable to hold while the 9790 is a little too thin for me. So, I got an extended battery and cover for the 9790 and now it is fatter and more comfortable to hold. Also, the 9780 comes with UMA (TMO/USA) while ya gotta configure it on the 9790(using the hidden engineering screens) and also add two certificates in order to get UMA to work on the 9790 (TMO /USA).

I can go 3 to 4 days at least with the 9780 with a lot of use. The 9790 however does require daily charge as mentioned above. At least that's been my experience with the two phones. Which one do I prefer? Actually the 9780, even though I am so frustrated web I try to use the touchscreen and nothing happens. Sometimes I think it's broken but then realize it's the 80 and not 90 (coloured buttons are easy way to see that).

One of the issues I have with the 9790 is the lack of support of certain apps that are available in the 9900 :/
Batt life wise its definitely gonna get pwned by the 9780. Even with a spare battery, I find myself using up both by the end of the day on heavy usage days.

Re: Guys, should i get 9780 or 9790
In my opinion, the browsing experience on the 9780 is horrible.
It's incredibly slow, and using the trackpad to navigate is just frustrating for me. I do really like the 9700/9780 keyboard though.
I consider a touch screen to be a minimum requirement of any modern smartphone. Despite the battery life drawbacks, I would go with the 9790. It has a processor nearly double the speed of the 9780. - 11-25-2012, 11:49 PM #9

get the 9790
9780: better battery life
9790:40% faster browsing, better hardware, will not last you 2 days only 1 day, 1 and a half if you're lucky, and the 9790 is just a better phone all together, not to forget the sexy touch screen

I have both a 9780 and a 9790, I love the 9790! ok so charging it every night when you go to bed... big deal. I have OS 7.1 on the 9790 now and the mobile hotspot is just amazing! (wi-fi for your gadgets i.e laptop or tablet where ever you go).
The 9780 I have left at home all this weekend whilst i was away, I charged it last Thursday night, checked it this morning and it must have lost about 10% battery life! That's awesome!
Also the 9790 has NFC, but I haven't found a single place where I've been able to use it yet... (south coast of UK) - 11-26-2012, 09:16 PM #11
I had the 9700/9780 for about 2 years before getting the 9790 in September 2012* and it was the best thing ever I did!
With the 9780/9700 I was already charging nightly with the phone on my nightstand while I slept so charging the 9790 nightly don't bother me one bit.
That aside the 9790 is faster, smoother, and does way more stuff than the 9780!
Also considering you can sell off a good condition working 9780 on eBay for $200 and buy yourself a brand new unlocked 9790 on eBay for $300 then it is a no brainer!
I also own an iPad2, iPod Touch and iPhone 4S-as a back up, so having a 9790 or any Blackberry in my pocket doesn't bother me and doesn't make me feel old or outdated! The 9790 works perfectly and I have no one to impress but myself.
*I also used the 9900 for a week as loaner and I did NOT like that phone. Yes the screen is bigger on the 9900 but so the resolution is the same so basically you get the same information on the screen and the icons and text are scaled up for the screen so when you start using the 9790 you barely notice that the screen is smaller than the 9900. Also the 9900 physical size, camera quality and battery life is worse than the 9790 and those are attributes that are important to me. - 11-27-2012, 02:16 PM #14
Guys, should i get 9780 or 9790
For me personally the 9780 is my all time favourite BlackBerry & I've had the 9900. To be fair in my experience browsing on ANY BlackBerry is a painful experience & to make the best of a bad situation you need a touch screen to ease that pain. The trade off with a touch screen is battery life unfortunately. The 9780 is quite an old phone now & u would always advise getting the latest phone if you can afford it. If browsing is import to you maybe you need a Torch just because of screen size. My opinion for what it's worth is get the 9790 because its the latest phone with the better spec & just charge every night regardless of how much battery is left.

The idea I was trying to communicate was the resolution and screen size is greater on the 9900 but the native font size and icons are all bigger on the 9900 so it works out to being the same AMOUNT OF INFORMATION displayed on the 9900 versus the 9790 screen!!!
See pictures below:

Uhm...I did NOT notice the 9790 having a smaller screen at all. Unless you have big baseball bat sized fingers and bad eyesight the ONLY time you should notice or be bothered going from 9900 to 9790 is when watching YouTube videos OR when touching the home screen icons since on the 9790 the icons are smaller on the 9790! Also the 9790 has better battery life on the FACT that it uses the same battery as the 9900 on a weaker processor /smaller screen size.

Actually I been using Blackberries daily for 8 years (8x365 = 2920 days) nonstop.
So 5 days with the 9900 was all the time I needed to figure it out and to figure out the 9900 for the price was not a worthy successor to the 9780.
Not to come across as smug but it is not rocket science after all. - 11-28-2012, 05:44 AM #19

9790 I'd say.

I don't know about 5 days but I can get 3 to 4 max with my 9790 running OS 7.1.
Also note that any 9780 he is buying second hand or used will likely come with an old battery in it. Towards the 2nd year of my 9780 the battery life was noticeably diminished.
Anyone that knows how to use their phone and manage battery consuming apps can get days of battery life out of any 9790 with normal usage.
Also having a secondary device like an Galaxy Tablet, Kindle, iPad/iPhone or iPod Touch for your commuter gaming and media needs will save the battery on the 9790 since you won't be trying to do everything on one device.Last edited by delmarco; 11-29-2012 at 11:21 AM.
