Did you run the EXE file after you downloaded it to install it to the computer?
Did you delete BOTH of the vendor.xml files including the hidden one in the hidden folder?

That's right... But i'd safely say, there are two files, almost everytime!!
You can delete the VENDOR.XML files from the following Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 locations:

    Non-Hidden File
    32-bit systems -
    *Windows_Drive*\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

    64-bit systems -

    *Windows_Drive*\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

    Hidden File

    Win XP (32 and 64) -
    *Windows_Drive*\Documents and Settings\*User_Name*\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

    Vista, Win7 (32 and 64) -
    *Windows_Drive*\Users\*User_Name*\AppData\Roaming\ Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

I copied the location data off this thread.
Drive A: format failure, formatting C: instead...

    My phone history

    Nokia 1112 > Nokia 7210 Supernova > Nokia 1616 > Nokia X6 > BB 8830 (office) > BB 9650 > BB 9780 (and loving this one!! )

    Plus a 64GB

Search for the vendor.xml files on your PC and delete them.
download the OS version that you would like to run.
Follow a guide on how to install the OS on your Blackberry Bold 9780.
