Trackpad jiggling
Just got this phone tonight. I'm noticing the the trackpad is a little jiggly when scrolling up and makes a bit of a clicking noise. It seems a bit loose almost. Is this normal? My Curve 8530's trackpad wasn't like this.

no its not normal........i have a trackpad on my 9700 and its solid..but i read a few posts with peaople having issues with these trackpads,i would take it back to your carrier and get it replaced before it gets worse, too expensive of a device to put up with that crap.

On my 9780 it's a bit loose but I'm not bothered, coming from a Nokia E72 lol.

I went back to Telus tonight and they basically said it's normal and it's not supposed to be completely solid. They still exchanged it for me though and my new one is exactly the same, so I'm assuming it's typical.

I get it but it really depends how your thumb goes over the trackpad otherwise it's flawless. If anything what bugs me more is that the trackpad is slightly off center but seems to exist in most if not all 9780's I've seen, doesn't matter which carrier. Wouldn't be surprised any noise issues were caused by that.

Yeah, it's kinda weird 'cause my curve wasn't like this so it's hard to get used to. But if almost everyone is having the same slight jiggling then it must be almost all of them that have it.

had a 9700 and 9780. i actually took both phones apart to compare. my 9700 was solid and not wobbly at all but i went through 3 9780's with the wobbly trackpad. the 9780 has a different base underneath the trackpad. it is not the same at the 9700. this would make the difference. i dont think that you will be able to get a 9780 that is rock solid like the 9700 was.

That was a known issue on many 9700's too

I guess my question now that I'm on my second jiggly trackpad phone is do I try to exchange it again and hope to get a phone that isn't jiggly or do I just live with it as is even though it bugs me?

swap till your satisfied. if you swap more than 3 times id say its probably not going to change and you may have to live with it. ive tried a bunch of them. the earlier builds were really wobbly. the later ones less. wierd how this problem still exists considering they have been making this phone for a year and a bit now. (the 9700 that is)

Just got mine yesterday and it's rock solid.
If it really bothers you, you should be able to find a solid one like mine.RIM is dead. Long live BlackBerry! - 12-21-2010, 03:59 AM #14
Same thing with me. Swapped it and still has the problem. I'm not really a fan of reloading everything back on so I think I'm going to live with it, altho it annoys me.
Real question: is there anyone out there with a 9780 that has had and used it a lot for at least 2 weeks and does NOT have this problem?
