Switching to 9780 : Questions and suggestions
Hello

I have a 9700, (black) infact, am using it to type this, but I want the 9780, maily because am tired of the OS 5, and I want a new White blackberry oh and faster so I made my choice with 9780, I plan on buying it tomorrow, but the price is $600 I have the money as I type this, but how much is the out of contract 97800 is it $500 as in my country in Africa, RIM doesn't exist so people import the Phones from the US & UK so having a profit of $100 is fair .... If the out of contract 9780 is $400 then I wouldn't buy.....
Am selling my 9700 tomorrow also, I have collected the money already, I sold my ipod touch 2nd gen also to raise money for the 9780, since am selling it,
how do I do with my bbm contacts?
If my back it up remotely via email, and go to restore in my 9780 I would get all my contacts?
But if I restore my backed up contacts on my 9780 would it update my new pin of 9780 in all my contacts I.e in my contact profile of my bbm contacts the pin is of my 9700 so would it update the new pin of the 9780 if they view my contact again... ???
For those that upgraded from 9700 to 9780 was it worth it?

The TMobile version retails for 450. It's a tough call as to if it's worth it. You are getting a better camera and more app memory. It will run 6.0 better, and it has full 6.0 support now. You CAN get 6.0 on your 9700 but right now, it's just a leak, and many folks feel it does not run well on the 9700. BUT the truth is the 9780 is really not THAT much better of a device, as it has the same CPU (or main chip) as the 9700. But like I said you get a camera upgrade and you get twice the app memory so 6.0 WILL run better.

I have a slightly different question, but also related to changing from 9700 to 9780.
I currently have a 9700 and am getting a 9780 as a replacement due to damages.
I made a backup earlier using BlackBerry Desktop Manager, but will this cause issues to restoring it to the new 9780?
I'm not sure what the backup file consists of, if it only backs up data or an image of the whole phone (I'm running OS 5 on the 9700 and worried about it overwriting OS 6 on 9780).
If someone can tell me which situation is true and what can I do to make things better for myself that would be great.
TIA - 12-30-2010, 08:07 PM #4
I think its worth it, especially if you sell your 9700. You could easily regain $250 back on the price, as well as, not waste an upgrade.
And to the second poster, no the 9700 file will not overwrite the os on the 9780.
