How soft/hard are you pressing? What do you have them set to? Did you trying pulling the battery on your phone?

I've never had any problems but make sure you are pressing directly on the button. With the blackberries that I have had I've noticed that this has been an anoyance for me also. But I LOVE my bold. Try wolfs idea with a battery pull.

What type of blackberry do you have? If you can't find any options for a side convenience key setting, then you should try this: Options --> Device Options --> Convenience Key. (I have a BB Torch 9800.) It might be that you don't have anything set for your convenience key at all.

So for the few weeks you've had the phone, the convenience keys have never operated? Did you purchase the phone directly from T-Mobile, a T-Mobile Authorized Dealer, or online through a 3rd party?

I purchased it directly from Rogers, the left convience key works, the right doesn't. The volume buttons work when in the media player but not on home screen.

What were you expecting the volume buttons to do on the home screen? They're not convenience keys, and they only control the volume in a call or volume/track skip in media.
The right convenience key is the one below the volume buttons. It's a 2-stage push button designed specifically for the camera (1st half press operates the autofocus, 2nd full press operates the shutter). Have you actually set this as a convenience key? Options > Device > Convenience Keys > Right Side Convenience Key Opens > choose an app.
If you have already set it to open an app, because of it's primary function for the camera, it is often quite stiff to press. If it isn't working, I wouldn't force it. It's obviously broken and you should return it for repair/exchange.

Yeah I'd say your phone is likely fine, you're probably pushing the right side convenience key with the same pressure as the left side key, and that won't activate it... Gotta press more firmly and in the center of the key... As Phil said, those volume buttons won't do anything unless you're on a phone call or listening to media.

You may also fine that a slightly longer press of say, half a second will help. I have found that just "dabbing" these two buttons does not always bring the desired result.

Ahhhh thanks guys, i thought my keys weren't working. I finally figured out the conveince key only works while in the camera. Thanks for all your help!

just to simply things a little further (which phil said), the right convenience key has two levels of depression.
it is a global function; the function to which the key is assigned will be called upon irrespective of your current application, but is only activated if the key is fully depressed.
