Default Which OS should i download

    Hi Guys,

just downloaded the latest available OS for the 9780 (os.3106) as per Crackberry OS Superpage which was a DEC'11 release

just before i got into the process of wiping and loading it onto the device, i checked the indian BB website for the latest OS available and it showed a different version released FEB'12.

i've attached the screenshot of the page, could someone help me out and tell me which is the latest official version and and of the two releases, which is the better one to use.

    thanks

Its what OS works for 'you'.

I have .402 for my Bold. Some people have noted thay have radio problems. My .402 is perfect on that front.

The thumbnail just shows the Blackberry Desktop Software and not the OS.

Install the latest desktop Software and see what OS it offers you. OR read one of the threads on here for .668 or .723 and you will see instructions in there about using AppLoader to install the latest OS update.

Reading those threads will give you lots of personal opinions of why people use different OS versions. There is no BEST version - just whichever one you personally prefer.

Personally I use .666 due to the fixing of the keyboard stutter, stable UMA calling, and very good battery life and signal. (I did notice Real Life improvements and not just what I read online. Certainly have better 3G than I did with the .420 that my phone shipped with) I never upgraded to the .722/.723 releases due to minor issues being reported with items dropping off of menus.

OS's are easy to swap. So try whichever you like. Some fixes are more noticeable than others.

The line that says "Applications" is the version number quoted on this board. So you are looking at 6.0.0.285 or 6.0.0.706

If these are the only two you want to consider, take the second one as it is much newer and will include a lot of improvements and bug fixes.

To install, first check your Add\Remove programs list and remove any older Blackberry OS that may be on your PC.

Download and install Blackberry Desktop Manager.
Download and install this new .706 OS

Now fire up Blackberry Desktop Manager. Make sure you get a backup of your data. Then follow the prompts for updating your phone. This is an easy process and all your data should be restored at the end of the process.

There are other alternate procedures that use AppLoader instead. If you are just sticking with your phone companies released editions, then you can ignore this method for now.

Ok! Now for the time being lets forget the options put up by the carrier

I've already got .723 and .668 now tell me which one?

I cannot tell you which OS to install. That is up to you. I have already given you my opinion above.

If you want to go the .668 or .723 route then you need to use AppLoader.

    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101...ting-system-os

There are other variations of those instructions around as well. The item missing from the above link is the mention that sometimes there is a second vendor.xml in the %appdata% folders that can need deleting.

The main point - don't panic if the upgrade stalls. As long as you make sure you have a backup made first, then this is pretty proof. Just be patient with it.

Personally have used them all and have gone back to .666. It's by far the best for me and my network where I live. It does everything right... it's solid.

I'm personally using .723, much better battery life than the previous versions!

    Thats all I can say.

As for my upgrade experience, had problems here and there. like after installation, the BB reboot stalled at the last bit of the loading. Had to re-load the upgraded OS, then it succeeded. Had me frightened for awhile as to whether my BB was damaged.

See - it is all about personal choice. Lots of different reasons to pick your favourite OS.

Once you know how to change the OS you can swap around as much as you like. Just don't get obsessed with the "best" one. You'll find it is all those rubbish apps that cause more changes to the phones behaviour than the actual OS version.

Different people use phones in different ways. So what is good for one person, is bad for another. So pick whichever version you like best.

As to tang63's comment about "making mistakes" - you learn nothing if you don't make mistakes. My first ever attempt at an upgrade also jammed. Thought I had borked my brand new phone. After leaving it 35 mins it still had not recovered. So I bravely yanked out the cable and started again. And all was fine (and I saw the importance of the backup).

These phones are pretty well proof

(BTW - on .666 my battery life is 3 or 4 days at a time. Mainly because I don't use facebook, twatter or any of those IM apps.)

I have 0.285 and it works great, maybe a little slow when downloading three apps at the same time.. But everything is normal. Just wondering, when i connected it to the Desktop Manager, it said that i could upgrade it to Bundle 2391. Is is recommendable? Btw, how can I install other OS6? Thanks!

@permachon: yes, upgrade. You have a very old OS version there. Some noticeable improvement over the years. As a first upgrade, just let Desktop Manager do its magic for you. As long as you have a backup, you can't break anything. Just be patient. Even if you do get one of those rare occasions when something goes wrong, just start again and it will work second time.

Then if you feel like a different OS other than what your supplier hands out, read this thread (and many others) for instructions.

I would think that makes sense. The only thing I have seen reported is something to do with BBM missing from a menu at times. If there had been any serious problems this forum would have been filled with screaming people.

.723 will be a good improvement over .524

I can tell you which to install. I'd go for 6.0.0.723 + Raikkohad v12 for the 9780.

It solved a number of problems on my device.

    Give it a try.

never heard of it before? What does it do?

EDIT: I just researched on it, does the hybrid come in all language or multilanguage? Also, how good is the hybrid OS?

Comes in English, but it's up to you if you want something else in there (I personally use EN/PT_BR here)

Hybrids are usually better than stock OS. I find that v12 is less prone to bugs and it also fixed an issue I had that prevented Google contact sync.

I am currently on .723, google contact sync works well. Regarding the language, does the OS have east asian language installed?

So I'm guessing you are also using raikkohad v12 too? Is the battery life really better on raikkohad v12 compared to .723?
