Default My Bold 9000 was stolen...Bold 9700 or wait for 9780?

    Hello,

Topic says it all. The situation is:

    - My 9000 was stolen, and I'm feeling naked w/o a blackberry..
    - I live in Portugal and don't know when the 9780 will come
    - Really interested in OS 6 (ofc), and I'm afraid the 9700 won't run it (or at least w/o significant cuts in features)

Should I buy the 9700 now, or I wait for 9780, probably until 2011?

Thanks for any input in advance..

Get the 9700 because OS 6 will run on it as shown in a video on the crackberry blogs.

    Why go through withdrawal?

What of the suspicions that not enough memory remains after boot up to accomodate the rest of the usual apps?

Some even say that it might not even be the 9700 there..

This may be tinfoil-on-the-head paranoia, but the motives for doubting are plausible: new OS, uses more ram, device has "only" 256mb and RIM is launching 9780 to directly address this need for more RAM (the other updates are pretty minor).

BGR definitely has no reason to lie about it being a 9700 in the video. I have absolutely no doubt it was a real 9700.

One thing to consider is if your carrier will ever be getting the 9780.

Personally, I couldn't wait that long for a new phone while unsure if it was even a possibility.

Get another 9000 whilst you wait. It's still the best.

Why would you prefer 9000 over the 9700?

If 9700 is lighter, smaller, same keyboard, better battery, more ram, bigger screen, what's missing?

I can't go without a bb but I consider the browser (native, opera, whatever) to be the weakest link in the chain. I'm waiting for os 6 to fix that and 9000 won't run it

ok I assumed bigger batter because I skimmed through a comparison that said the 9700 had a better uptime, and I assumed a bigger a battery.

The screen..ok better resolution, not a bigger screen, sorry.

So, the "advantage" is its shape, then..meh

    PS: "10 chars"?

There is a minimum of 10 characters per post. Thus adding "10 char" meets the requirements.

Too bad you're so far away. I have an extra 9000 I would sell to you, but the shipping would probably ruin the deal, if not make it impossible.

Thanks, but I think I'll invest in a new one.

I can buy the 9700 in my telecom operator for 300€. Not that bad of a deal..

Come to think of it, I do find the back of the 9000 more stylish, too much plastic on the 9700

9000 creaks too much, 9700's solid. I'd wait for the 9780 to get more ram

If you can wait until October -- maybe November even -- then get the 9780. If you need a phone right now, then get the 9700. It will be getting OS 6 so you won't miss out on that. The only thing you'll really lose is the 5MP camera and if you run a lot of apps, you might have a hard time managing as the device will probably have 70MB of application storage with the new OS.

I am with Karmaloop on this one, but sounds like you need a phone now.

Didn't have insurance on old phone?

    No insurance..

As for the need for 9780..I usually just ran the basic apps on my bold: facebook, twitter, msn live, foursquare and browser.

    Oh, and 3 Mail accounts.

If 70MB is what I have after boot..isn't that more than what the 9000 has on OS5 (since its ram is 128mb)?

Sorry jsvd, You know......... a couple of guys on here like to call me the Grammar Police..... So, well I gonna have to correct you. The screen of the 9700 is actually smaller than the screen on the 9000, and other than the memory issue, I actually would go back to the 9000, even though the 9000 has the track-ball, its not that bad of a thing.....Then again, I AM on T-mobile, so that counts me out anyway, since the 3G on the 9000 isn't compatible with T-mobile USA.

Then you should be fine. And yeah, I'd think so.

Thanks. First I had the impression it was a little bigger (height). Then I thought it was the same, just with a bigger res.

If it is smaller..kinda sucks. Other than that I don't think the possibility of losing os6 (specially the webkit browser) is outweighed by 9000's slightly bigger screen and roomier keyboard.

    Thanks all for the input!
