Default How Many Users NOT Experiencing Double Key Input Issue?

Trying to gauge how many people have fully functioning phones that are free of this issue. The issue in question is that your phone is double inputting keyboard entries when you only hit the selected key once. Some people say their phones are fine, some say this issue was present but got better on their phone over time, one user I saw said his phone was fine at first but developed this problem. Common belief is that this is a hardware issue that has not been resolved through firmware/OS updates.

Please post if your phone is symptom free and how long you've had you've been using your phone for. Thanks.

*** Oh, and if you don't mind pulling your battery, underneath the battery there is a white sticker and at the bottom it will say where the phone is manufactured, mine says MADE IN MEXICO 1, if you don't mind posting that information, that might be helpful in identifying if the problems were tied to a particular manufacturing location or build. *****

I've been using mine for almost a month and I don't have this issue. My phone says it was made in Mexico.

I've had mine since the T-Mobile release date in November 2010. The problem has become worse in that time. At first, it was quite rare; now it's frequent enough to be annoying.

I spoke with T-mo Customer Service yesterday. The individual I spoke with hadn't heard of this issue, but was interested in reading the threads about it here on CB. I showed him where to find them and, after reading them, he authorized a handset exchange.

Hey Ubizmo how does the exchange process work over the phone? I purchased my phone through T-Mobile CS directly and was wondering about that. Do they charge you for the replacement and then make you return the defective one for a credit? This is likely what I'm going to have to do to exchange mine.

Mine is Mexico-4. The replacement hasn't arrived yet.

They don't charge for the replacement, except for a $20 shipping/handling fee, which was waived. So no cost at all. They send you the replacement phone and a postage-paid mailer. You have nine days to send the old phone back. They don't include a new battery; you swap your current battery into the new handset. So the only thing unusual that should appear on my bill is a $20 debit and credit.

The tech guy with whom I spoke asked me to test the keypad on the replacement phone before transferring any apps to it, just to be sure that apps aren't causing the problem. He doubts this, but wanted me to try it anyway.

I've found that the easiest way to experiment is to use the password entry screen. Since the the space bar is the one that is most likely to stutter, the password entry screen gives me immediate visual feedback about what's happening. I use the Back key to dismiss the failed password tries, so I don't accidentally wipe the device.

If there is any sign of the same problem in the replacement device, I'm to send it straight back in the postage-paid envelope.

Update: I already put this in the thread about Crackberry being referenced by a T-Mobile rep, but I'll repeat it here.

I called yesterday and got my replacement phone today, which is certainly quick. This one is a Mexico-1 device. As advised by the T-Mobile tech support person, I tested before modifying the phone in any way or even putting in a SIM. The stuttering problem was there, and worse than on my original device. Within five minutes of testing, I was seeing stuttering on space, zero, a, s, and t. It wasn't constant, of course, but if I was seeing that much in a matter of minutes, it would obviously be a constant annoyance. I'll ship it back tomorrow.

Rats, sorry to hear.... So they'll send you a 3rd one shortly eh? Keep updating us, I'm anxious to see how many you'll have to go through before getting a good one.

To test my phone for the problem, I open up a new email and just type consecutive characters from the same key rows (ASDFGHJKL), line after line after line, then alternate rows. That way you can look at your keypad to ensure you're pressing the correct keys (and hitting them only once) and then look above to see if any keys/characters were repeated.

I just got off the phone with Customer Care again, and they're sending another, even as I return this one. They'll cross paths in the mail. I'll update this thread when I've received and tested it.

Ubizmo, one last question, IIRC, you had your original 9780 for awhile right? As far as you know is there any 30 day time limit for a defective exchange for a brand new phone? I got my phone December 21st or so, so I have about 2 weeks until I approach my 30 days.... Trying to decide what to do... My problem with this issue is pretty intermittent, but happens enough to remind me that it's there.... I paid $20 for my Invisible Shield screen protector and would have to order a new one if I decide to try and replace my phone... Not sure it's worth the hassle, 50/50 right now...

With T-Mobile US, and presumably with other carriers, the manufacturer's warranty covers this sort of thing for one year. So there's no rush. My problem is intermittent as well, but definitely there, and it has definitely gotten worse since I got it.

    Default Here is a fix

Here is how you fix the problem.
    Go to your carriers website.
download the latest os software for the 9780
    Then backup you device
Use the loader to reload the os it should come up fine and if you need to restore your data from your backup
Here is how to use the loader I know it is for a device that does not load but the steps are the same
