Downgrade 9780
Hello, is it possible to DOWNgrade the OS on my new 9780 to the OS I had on my 9000 like a year ago? I like the old one much more....

Nope, 9780 is OS 6 only.
You can try a theme that has an OS5 feel

I need the HOLSTER profiles feature. For the phone to Make sounds IN the holster and be silent OUT of the holster. I hate the IM applications when they RING while I chat. Why would it make a sound when I already got the phone out of the holster and look at the screen? Why did RIM begin to simplify the customization features?
I would probably buy BB 9000 in Dubai, and sell this "new and awesome" 9780 in Russia

You may want to look at Bebuzz as a way to give you back those functions you are now missing. It is a paid app but I believe there is a free trial version of it also. Its found in BB App world or the Mobihand site.

Guys, I am here at the shop, reply fast, please, I need you! )
Will it be possible to put OLD OS (the one I had on my Bold 9000 a year ago) on 9700 Bold, since 9780 is only OS6?
The only thing I need is those old Holster Profiles and old menus...keen on s - 03-17-2011, 05:40 AM #6
You cannot downgrade the OS on your 9780 to other than OS6.
It runs only OS6.
OS5 will not run on this phone. It is not available. - 03-17-2011, 05:51 AM

The 9700 WILL run OS5. It was delivered with OS5 so there is no restriction with this phone running that OS.

Thank you. Will get 9700 now and downgrade it to the system I used before trying iPhone.
in case it wont have what I need. It is strange, I always try to get the latest updates. First time in my life I downgrade... Not that good job, RIM
Thanks again, Pete6

buddy you just have to look at the setting in the profile set up it gives you the option to play the sound (always/out of holster/in holster). in OS6 just got to edit under sound alert theres volume count the play sound that should solve your issuse
good luck - 03-17-2011, 10:52 AM #13
The 9700 under OS6 has both In Holster and Out of Holster profile options and so does the 9780. I just checked both phones.
In Profiles, scroll to the bottom of the screen to Change Sounds and Alerts, click it.
Select Phone - Ringtones (as a test)
Go to Play sound and click the drop menu and you will see
In holster
Out of holster
(Normal) Always - 03-17-2011, 11:00 AM

Yes. All it can is to play or not play the Same sound. Before on bold 9000 I could put one ringtone for In holster (on max volume) and another ringtone for out of holster ( on min volume). Now I can only tell IM applications not to make sounds when Out of holster. Well this will work as well, but thats like a step backwards.
thanks all you guys for help! I changed my QWERTZ keyboard phone to the normal one. Another phone had AWERTY keyboard, and one more Had problems with buttons. But finally the phone, which as a CS Rep said was made in Hungary, didnt have any obvious bugs and problems...
Hope it will work normally

I never realized that 5 could have different tones for in holster and out. Learned something new today.
I wonder why they droped that feture? I would have used it if I knew it was there. Now I use a holster that doesn't have the magnet in it. I prefer to have my keyboard stay off untill I decide to turn it on.

There is an app in appworld called Holster Aid that provides the function of setting different profiles for in/out of holster.
It's only $.99
