Question Brand new 9780 camera NOT working!

    Hey bb lovers!
I Got the white blackberry bold 9780 for Christmas this year, so that means its only 3 weeks old..
a few days ago the camera broke,
I go to the camera, its ready to take a picture,
and then i click the sensor
AND/OR the side conveinence key, and it will not Shutter.
It wont take the picture, it doesnt do anything.
And then when i slide my finger over the track pack it will not detect that the camera button in the middle is even there.

So i brought it into rogers today and they gave me a brand new one from the box.
Its about 6 hours later, and its doing the exact same thing.

Ive tried updating it, but its brand new, theres NO updates yet.
    I am SO not impressed.
Also i've tried turnign it off, removing the battery, putting it back in, and starting it up, rebooting it..
    But it doesn't work.

    HELP PLEASE??!?!
    :
    confused:

I had this problem and a battery full helped. Is there an app you have which also uses the camera? Like an LED flash light? Also see if your phone will record a video.

Yes tell us about any apps that you have installed.

Something seems fishy for you to get TWO devices with a broke camera, let hear what you have installed. Did this new camera work when it came out of the box?

Check your OS version by pressing ALT + Right Shift + H on your keypad at the same time, then check the app version, if it was 6.0.0.285, then that may be your problem as I had the same issue when I first got my BB, opened it out of the box, went to camera, and no go.

Easy solution is to update to OS 6.0.0.359, even though you may not find any updates via BlackBerry Desktop Manager as it will only check your carrier. However, you can still install any update manually from another carrier by deleting the vendor.xml file

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

First you must start by downloading OS 6.0.0.359 from the following link >>> https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...3314DF2B3CB9CE

After the download is complete, install the file you have just downloaded.

Next, browse to Computer >>> C: >>> Program Files >>> Common Files >>> Research in Motion >>> Apploader

In that folder, you will find a file called vendor.xml, DELTE that file

While you are in that folder, after you have deleted the above mentioned file, you will find another file by the name of loader.exe

Run that file, you will now get the screen to initialize the upgrade of the OS on your BB, click next to continue, your device PIN will be listed on this next screen, click next again to continue.

Now you will be introducted with a list of options to select or deselect the components you want to install.

Carefully select only the items that you need, do not select all the chat messengers and components you know you will not use as this will eat up your precious application memory.

After you have selected the components you want to install, click next, andthe upgrade process shall begin.

Your phone will automaticaly create a backup of your settings / apps first, then it will wipe the old OS then install the new one and restore the backup.

Should anything go wrong at this stage, you will have to wipe your device again and try again, but luckily, we have created a backup file at the beginning of these instructions, so you will still be able to restore all your contacts, emails, settings, etc.

I am not trying to scare you, it is pretty straight forward, however, we have had cases were a few members had something wrong go during the process which rendered them without a backup of their contacts, emails, settings.

I have the same problem. Mine worked earlier pretty fine. Its now, that it displays a 7 color band (as in old color VCD/VHS players did) when in portrait/close-up mode.

In video shooting also it does the same color band. I don't know what to do with it.

I am trying the OS version 359 thing, but does anyone one know why it behaves like this?

The latest OS 6 might be the best to overcome this. VHS marking? I WANTZ IT! lol (who doesn't want the classic markings of bad vintage tracking?)

You should try replacing it with the Bold 9900 and paying a difference.

i have a very similar problem, anytime i launch the camera i just see a black screen and when i change it to face detection mode it displays the VHS 7 color display band,in video mode it displays the same thing too.I have tried a complete phone wipe and clean os install.im currently using the 6.6.0.248 platform app version is 6.0.0.723(3106) which i think is the latest for os 6. Is there anyone with info about this issue?

    Old thread...
Have you tried updating the OS 6 software or doing a complete reload, restoring a custom backup?
