Just checked the vendor ID on my Bold 9780 and it appears as -1

I assume it must be some kind of RIM ID - anyone know?

I have never seen a negative vendor ID My guess would be it's a carrier/SIM free device. When it boots up, is there a carrier splash screen? Is there any carrier branding on the device?

Evaluation (or engineering) units were supplied to carriers for testing, prior to launch of the final consumer units.
