you've a locked phone now & unlocking will certainly free you to insert other's SIM but for blackberry BIS operation, you'll also need to free the PIN from Telus's BlackBerry Server or else you won't be even remotely close to setting up BIS with another SIM on your phone ...

Freeing your PIN means asking Telus to do the needful from their server (and a carrier only does that once all their bills / dues are paid off ...

AT&T does not, however, currently offer BlackBerry Data on prepaid.

You might want to try tmobile or simple mobile for prepaid data packages.

    You don't get T-mobile 3G on a Telus phone.

OP, you're better off on the AT&T network (if you can get on it, that is)

    Just remember the bands issue:

    Tmo : bands 1, 4, 8
    ATT : bands 1, 2, 5, 6

The Telus would be inline with ATT

Yes only 2G .. But AT&T doesn't do BB prepaid. Only voice.

No need to release the pin just to use another sim. Just insert a new sim (with a BIS data plan) and you should be good to go.

+1 for T-Mobile prepaid BIS service. Sure you'll only get 2G, but that should be fine for basic use.

Good for BBM and email and a little web browsing. BlackBerry browsers are slow as it is. .

WoW !! This is news to me ...

You insert the prepaid T-Mobile BIS SIM card and expect your Service Books from T-Mobile to flow into your device ?? While your PIN is held by Telus ...

It will NEVER happen - those service books ain't gonna come ever ...

Good luck to those in anticipation ...

All you need is to call up Telus and release the pin off your BIS account..

I did it fine when I went to Italy and inserted a TIM (Tela Italia Mobile) sim card from an unlocked Rogers BB. My PIN followed me no problem as did my BBM contacts onto TIM. The only minor problem was when I came back and had to simply have the email service books resent and log into Rogers.
