| | BlackBerry Bold 9780 Battery Life Issue
I've noticed that the battery life on my new 9780 isn't nearly as long as the battery life I had on my 9700. I begin charging my 9780 at 10:00 p.m., unplug it at 8:00 a.m. and by 1:00 p.m. it's got 50% of battery life left. The 9700 would have at least 70% of battery life remaining by 5:00 p.m.
I've uninstalled several stock applications that came with the device and I have about 10 downloaded apps. I'm constantly closing any apps running in the background, clearing caches, messages and call logs and still no improvement.
If I should decide to record a video or use the GPS Nav system, the battery will be reduced by 20% within minutes.
Any suggestions?

How long?
I would try reinstalling the OS after a backup, or exchange it for another 9780.
Also, try shutting down the phone....turn it back on and see how the battery acts. Could be a corrupt file (game or app)

Sometimes I'll record a one minute video or use Telenav for about 15-30 minutes and it drains my battery horribly. Even if I stay away from these features, the battery drains rapidly from morning to early afternoon. I regularly use BerryBuzz, DailyHoroscope, Browser, FB and BBM (I make sure they don't run in the background (except for BerryBuzz).
A corrupt app could be the cause. How can I find out which app is corrupted? By uninstalling them all?
This is my third Bold 9780 so I've reached the conclusion that it may be one of the device's shortcomings. I've tried reducing the display's brightness, using MemoryUp and deleting old msgs/calls. I hope someone out there has come up with ways to extend the Bold 9780's battery life.
Thank you for your response.

I have several apps installed and using leaked OS 6.0.0.359. I use the browser all the time, constantly BBM and my battery will last for 2-3 days before needing charged. You may have a bad battery or one of apps is causing the issue. You may want to do a full backup then delete all of your apps. After that reload the apps one at a time allowing reasonable time between loading another. This may assist in determining if the battery drain is app related.

I don't normally use the video recorder or Nav system but if I were to use these features, I'd be up a creek without a paddle. Perhaps OS 6 is a battery drainer? I had the OS 6 leaked version installed on my 9700 and the battery began to behave overly sensitive with OS 6. Has anyone else noticed this?

Good point. I have a feeling it's BerryBuzz because I've had the same issue with all of my 9780's (all have had different batteries). I'll try that.
Thank you.

The 9780 get great battery life. I would do as others suggested and see if you can figure out the problem. If you look at the threads in this forum you will see there are only a few people complaining about battery life.
Mine could go a couple of days, easy.

hey everyone, first post here.. I solved this and have re-registered to share! my NY's resolution to go back to forums! this problem really frustrated me - I had moved from a 9700 to a 9780, all the same apps etc and my battery was just dying so quickly. In my final test, I turned off all connections (so no wireless, B/T or even phone signal!) and just left the 9780 on the window sill. After 8 hours the battery had gone from 100% to 30%!! So clearly something was amiss. Given that the apps were identical to my 9700 then I dont think it was that, nor do I think it was GPS etc as these setting were the same. So the actual cause remains a mystery but the solution was to use BB desktop manager to reinstall the O/S on my 9780. I then repeated my experiement (left on windowsill) and as expected after 8 hours the battery was still 95%. Hope this helps, and happy NY!

and if anyone can tell me the answer to the "moving email icons" then I would be eternally grateful! briefly - you create a new email account and move the icon to the desired location, but when you go into the consolidated message box upon returning to the menu screen your email icons have either moved, replicated, or disappeared! i think it's an O/S 6 bug!

Hey, im just wondering how i would uninstall the current os 6 on my telus 9780 and install os 6 again. I looked through blackberry desktop manager but could not find the option to reinstall the os anywhere. I'm having the exact same battery issue, im lucky if i make 8 hours heavy use and about 18 hours not using my phone at all.
