.723 works fine for me. If not .480 is your best bet.

723 is a good build with an excellent, over-engineered Radio but the downside of that OS (for me) is that the battery life REALLY SUCKZZZ !!!

so much so that I was forced to head southwards to 480 where am happy now ...

I know it's difficult to quantify as everyone's usage is different, but how often are you having to recharge you battery, and what sort of usage.
Mine lasts two days, and that is with facebook, twitter, BBM and e-mails constantly being monitored. Then mainly texts, and the odd telephone call. I also switch mine off over night.

Many thanks,

Malcolm.

see i tried 723 and my problem is the signal problem the bars drop so rapidly and it goes from 1 -3 -5 -4 its really weird and it only does it with this build so idk what to do? any other os's besides 480 cause its really slow im using .576 right now i mean its not bad but the battery isnt the best

what you report is weird bcoZ the .723 has probably the "most powerful" Radio I'm yet to see in an OS.

However, since this ain't working around for you, try out either :

( 1 ) the .668 OR

( 2 ) the .666 OR

( 3 ) get innovative and build a Hybrid using a Combo (sfi & cods)

totally agree with you, the best OS for Radio Signal Reception is .723, earlier my bars use to be fluctuating alot and now they hardly twitch.!! though battery life is a bummer.

i admitted that .480 was the BEST build forever . .706 and .723 are not stable and very bad for me , if you dont want to use old version , use .668 . i think .7xx build are a bad release from RIM same as .5xx

there's nothing as the best build. Each of us has a different Carrier hence the situation would grossly vary from person to person.

So - its not unusual that one may find a certain build to work better for him/her ... yet that same build maybe a total flop for another user.

I use .666 as I like the number. More importantly for me is the UMA works better than .480

My home suffers from bad coverage from Orange. Now they have added T-Mobile it isn't much better but I do noticeably get coverage in more areas now where I didn't in the past.

Before the .650 release UMA used to be very hit and miss for me. Now I can have long conversations from my home via broadband which are pretty clear.

TIP : If you wanna really monitor a signal strength bar that's flickering, Hold ALT & Type NMLL

the signal bar would change to dBm. It would show you in numerical ( -70 ) the changes that's occurring which you can now note.

Again - Hold ALT & Type NMLL to revert back to the Signal Strength bar display.

Default If battery life is your thing..

I would go for .450.. This built has amazing battery life on both edge and 3G. I manage to get up to 4 days when only using edge. That said I have a 1 month old battery.

First it tough the 7xx release had the best battery for edge only use, and poor battery for 3G as many people said. I had not installed the .450 built before some people speaked good about it in some other threads.

I also think that a built that offers long battery on 3G, have to offer even better with Edge.

With the .450 built my phone goes down to 90, 80, 70, 60, 50 and so on, with the 7xx built it's more like 100, 70, 60, 40, 20 ....

I also experienced that the 7xx built gave me bad battery life when doing a lot of phone calls, both with edge and 3G. But the signal was always very strong.

I have this place up in the woods from house, a place where the signal always changes from 3G to Edge. With the 7xx builts I did not change from 3G to edge, the 3g signal was showing 2 bars, but I did not manage to use my phone. Everytime I dialed the number and pressed the green button the call dropped. And I had to switch to Edge to make a call.
With the .450 built it switches to Edge and I can make a call.

This makes me wondering if the 3G signal with .7xx builts shows better signal than it really is..
