Battery indicator problem
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. Sorry if it takes a while to explain.
I've had my 9780 about a month. A couple of weeks ago I accidentally dropped it in the sink and it got wet. I quickly took out the battery, dried everything off with a towel and left it alone for a week to dry off (without the battery inserted). I also bought a new battery just in case the water might have damaged the old one. After a week, I tried my Blackberry and it works fine except for a problem with the battery indicator.
At first the indicator on the home screen showed the battery was full but after about an hour it turned red and the led started to flash. I also have the free BatteryWatch app installed and it showed my battery at 1%. I plugged it in to the mains to charge but after a few minutes it stopped showing the 'charging' symbol on the battery display. I tried doing a battery pull and when it restarted, the phone showed at 1% and the led continued to blink.
I left it alone overnight without charging but the next morning it was still showing 1% and flashing led. I thought there must be something wrong with the indicator display so I didn't charge it at all and waited for it to shut off by itself. It took a couple of days and then the message popped on the screen that the battery was discharged and the phone was shutting down.
I pulled the battery out, plugged in the wall charger and then put the battery in, and left it alone to charge for half an hour. After that I checked the phone and it was displaying the battery at 100% and was not showing the charging symbol. When I took out the charger, it still displayed 100%. I left it alone, still disconnected from the charger and after a little while I checked again and it had fallen to 50%. Another half an hour later and it was back to 1% and flashing the led.
In short, my battery is working fine (it's new) but the indicator is constantly displaying the wrong information. Is there any way I can fix this? There is no way I can get it repaired under warranty as I bought it from Ebay to replace my previous Blackberry and it has had the dunk in the water.
For what it's worth, the phone is running OS v6.0.0.285 (Bundle 863, Platform 6.5.0.54) - 05-14-2011, 04:58 PM

Thanks for the reply. Is there anything I can do to check and make sure this is the problem before I try and sell it for parts?
