9780 phone is magnetic on the backside between the camera and flash
Hi,
Just want to check whether this is normal or something to worry about. The back of my BB 9780 (between the camera and flash) seems to be magnetic. If I hold some small metal objects near it, they pull to the phone. Staples and the likes even stick to the phone. This happens when charging and also when the phone is not charging
Is this normal? Or should I be worried somehow?
Thanks! - 11-24-2012, 06:33 AM #2

I don't know this model off the top-of-my-head, but most BlackBerry smartphones have magnets in them...
They're used for cases/holsters and other accessories, so that certain actions can be automated - the screen turning-on and the smartphone unlocking when removed from a case/holster is the most common exsmple.

yes it is definitely the speaker that is magnetic. Is this normal?
Don't think it has anything to do with cases, there are two metal pins on the bottom of the phone for that already..

Those "pins" (or more accurately, "conacts") at the bottom are for cradles and car-kits...

The magnet back there is the loudspeaker. Nothing to worry about unless you drop your phone in a pile of pins, staples or iron filings or something. If the magnet draws something in that could pierce the membrane of the speaker through the slot above the camera/flash, or if something (like iron filings) gets in there to short the circuitry, you could be looking (and only looking, not listening, if you catch my drift) at a silent phone or worse.

Your ALL wrong. It has a magnet in the back to lock and unlock the device when using with the black berry leather case.
Get yourself a magnet and wave it near the magnet in your phone, you can make it lock and unlock
The two metal pins at the bottom of the phone are for cradle charging. NOTHING to do with the auto unlock feature.
EDIT: to say, im sat here with my 9780 in front of me, with a magnet, locking and unlocking it! - 12-10-2012, 09:19 PM #11
