Is it worth upgrading to the 9700 from the 8900?
I have a full upgrade available at T-Mobile. I like my 8900 but fear it will be left in the dust now that it is officially discontinued with T-Mobile. Is it worth upgrading to the 9700... and if so why? I am finding it hard to justify and am actually looking (don't jump all over me) at an Android devise. Any thoughts?

an android deviCe?? they are nice. i used a cliq for a little while. I liked it, but the battery life is highly overrated. I used it for 8hrs before i'd have to recharge it... it just plain on stunk.
The 9700 has a tiny bit more memory, used for the OS. The battery is AMAZING and the 3G speeds are nice.
Andorid will give you a better multimedia phone. Blackberry will give you a better communication phone...
so do you want to look at pretty pictures? or do you want to be able to talk to people.

The battery life on the 9700 is amazing you can go a few days without charge. The new OSes are becoming better and to me this is the best blackberry on the market. Overtime I think the trackball will begin to get complicated to use the trackpad is totally different. I havent had any experience with any android devises. This is just because ive had great feedback from blackberries so android is not an option for me. But I would suggest you go to the store and test out both devises you might want to get. I think once you get a feel for the 9700 you will fall instantly in love with it.

I'm thinking of upgrading my 8900 to the 9700 as well. I don't have any desire for the Android.
Anyone in the Phoenix area care to chime in about 3G? I personally don't know anyone using 3G in Phoenix on TMO. Curious about the performance.Mark - 02-03-2010, 11:36 AM #8
I have a 8320 and will be making the upgrade soon too, the main thing for me is app mem and the trackpad oh the screen too.
Don't judge me from yesterday cause today I have moved on. - 02-03-2010, 11:42 AM

I do have to say that I have been a huge supporter of RIM and BB devises over the years. Even got my company to switch to them 6 years ago. The funny thing is that I almost can't imagine myself without a BB clipped to my belt. I will have to go back to my T-Mobile store and have them fire up a 9700 and play with it a while. In the end I suspect I will be walking out with a new 9700 with my SIM card installed inside!
The one thing I am very leary of is the email system on Android... I am so used to push email. And, the SMS protocol on Android is totally different then on the BB.
I appareciate you comments and feedback.... As someone I know says.."listen to the right voices and you make the right choices!" - 02-03-2010, 11:44 AM #10
Its worth it! Its a great phone. The 8900 is still a good phone but if you want to upgrade, go with the 9700. Android is fun at first, but wears out fast. Plus different Android phones get different OS updates and that aint cool.

Yes... In my research I noticed that nearly every Android model is running different versions of the OS and they can only be updated to a certain version level based on the processor being used. Of course some older BBs won't be getting 5.0 becasue of memory issues.. but they are older models. The Andriods that can't go from 1.5 to the upcomming 2.0 are literally brand new models that have been out only a few months but are using older processors. Very strange. This is a major drawback in considering an Android phone. You never know when your phone is history based on what upgrades it can or can't take. I know T-Mobile has been very slow in releasing Android updates... well, not new... they do the same with BB. Where is 5.0 for the 8900? But your point is well taken!

I would have to echo some previous comments....The 9700 is 3G and has the trackpad. In my humble opinion, the trackpad is the best thing since sliced bread
I live in a rural area, so I can not get 3G (yet), but, I do take comfort in knowing that when I travel, I will be able to use 3G....
As far as the Android goes, I can not render an opinion, since I have yet to see one in person. I did use a HTC Fuse, and a Iphone (hated them both) and came back to BB.... - 02-03-2010, 03:25 PM #14
Shouldn't even a question. I came from 8900 and never looked back.

yea its Definetly worth it, especially if your on T-Mobile with that awesome UMA they have going on

didn't the 8900 also have UMA? if so... moot point...
benefits of the 9700 are the 3G obviously... on a BB... not sure this is essential, but it is quite nice.... the trackpad itself is awesome... it's not a matter of if the trackball will fail on an 8900, it's when... the keyboard on a 9700 also blows away the curve keyboard - but that's a personal preference... just my opinion... many like the curve kb better....
battery life might be better on the 9700... but i don't really know for sure... just figuring newer battery tech... but again, just my assumption.... i've never had an 8900.... just handled them in storeBold 9700

Definitely worth the 100€ higher price (sold 8900 & got 9700 in a mobile phone forum)
Faster, snappier, Trackpad, amazing battery life!
Best BlackBerry ever!

I was curious too, but I made the switch from my 8900 to the 9700 Friday and I haven't looked back since. The 3g, trackpad, and the battery life has the 8900 beat, but don't get me wrong I enjoyed my 3 months with the 8900.
