Default Is it worth leaving Verizon for the 9700?

I have had it with waiting for VZW to get the 9650 or really anything decent. The 9630 has been less than stellar in my mind.

I barely use it to talk with people, I need it more for email than anything else.

    Thanks!

Depends on many factors or if you want to stick with BB or go with something else...look at the bigger picture.

Personally me, I am not a fan of Big red as I know what my SIL goes through with them month to month...but if you like their plans then see what else they have to offer before jumping ship.

Also shop other carriers, like physically go in there and talk to a rep and ask questions and try out their phones. Really is the best way IMO.

Being in Canada, i have no clue about VZW,Sprint, ATT etc... but i would think that having the best phone on a crappy coverage area is useless. I would choose the best carrier first, then the best phone on that carrier. That being said, the 9700 is just plain awesome !

I just did. And the tmo 3g coverage rules here in vb. Plus the phone is amazing. Glad I made the switch myself.

    OP, Yes.

Your bill will be chopped in half, and you'll get reliable service without all the BS.
(but check in your area still, to make sure you're not in some T-Mo twilight zone for signal )

I'm happy with T-Mo (used both VZW and AT&T in the past)... not switching any time soon... the only way is if T-Mo went under

I would look at the coverage in your area and also areas that you travel the most (Work, School, friends house) find out who has the best coverage in those areas and go from there. Coverage for me is the first and the most important factor.

    Only my .02.

VERIZON is hard to beat coverage wise...but ATT is not far behind.

Same here! T-Mo phones are not crippled like VZW phones. Your GPS will work with no additional charge etc. Unlimited is unlimited with T-Mo!

I left the Tour for the 9700 when it first came out. I went to AT&T. The difference in my bills was negligible (literally .93 in AT&T's favor). I haven't noticed any difference in service (I live and work in NYC). As a device, the 9700 (IMO) is just better all around. It was definitely worth the jump.

I agree with mi_canuck. If you go with TMO, your bills will be lower than VZW but you have two choices in carriers and that's AT&T or TMO. I personally have TMO. Why? Their prices are lower than the competition, stellar customer service, and it just works for me. Yeah it's true, TMO has spotty coverage in some areas that's why you need to check you area of service. In regards to the 9700, I think everyone agrees that it rocks! Oh, the only way I'd go with any other carrier is if TMO took a plunge.

$99.99 a month Unlimited everything on Tmobile compared to VZW's $90 plan with 450 minutes only. Coverage wise, you can't beat the Big Red's but when it comes down to speed, 3G on t-mobile will beat VZW's 3G. 3G on VZW is pretty much EDGE network on T-mobile. In consumers report and in most major big cities; NY, SF, Philly, Seattle, Phoenix, St. Louis, San Antonio, San Diego, and Washington, T-mobile's coverage is way better than AT&T's network.

Based on Consumer Reports: Expert product reviews and product Ratings from our test labs of January 2010
Correct me if i'm wrong, these facts are based off of my t-mobile rep and the website I've provided.

As far as I'm concerned, AT&T shouldn't even be mentioned in this thread. Worse possible coverage, HANDS DOWN.

I went from a Verizon 9630 to a T-Mobile 9700. Very glad that I did. You really get so much more on T-Mobile, except for that huge bill. If I were you, I'd at least give it a try for the first 30 days.

VZW doesn't cripple GPS any more. We get full GPS functionality with 3rd party apps on the Tour and the Storm/Storm2 at no additional charge. They only block GPS on the 8330 and the 8830. It will also be available on the Bold 9650.

Please elaborate, but don't mention the faster processor, because GSM and CDMA have different processor requirements. It's apples and oranges. So aside from that, how does the 9700 beat the 9650? Is it the memory? No, because the 9650 has 512MB and the 9700 has 256MB. Is it screen resolution? No, because they are identical. WiFi? Nope. Both have WiFi. Trackpad? No again. Power management? We don't know, as that remains to be seen, although the 9700 will probably have the edge there.

It would be far more accurate to say that they are both excellent choices. If you want a CDMA carrier, choose the 9650. If you want a GSM carrier, choose the 9700. But to say that the 9700 beats the 9650 any day of the week is just misinformation.

I'm surprised no one has said the most important thing: pick your carrier FIRST! Then pick your phone
That being said, the 9700 pwns (I think that's the lingo ) Seriously though, the 9700 is quite functional and I don't have AT&T issues that some complain about. As a matter of fact, when I was OTR I had more problems with Verizon CS, coverage, and call quality in the two years I had them then I've had with AT&T (Cingular at the time) since. My GF has T-Mobile, and I've tried them myself, and they're fine as long as you don't need to use your phone between cities Your mileage will vary of course...

I love my blackberry bold 9700 with tmobile... Its the best phone... As if u wanna switch from verizon it all depends on what carrier is better because verizon will be receiving the 9650 bold this month... And has very similar specs except we have a better processor and better battery... They will have 512 of memory while we have 256... So now it all depends how much u wanna pay on ur bill... As tmobile has the cheapest plan to data bill ratio... Good luck and happy buying

T-Mo definitely has the BEST customer service...

A couple months ago, the CSR on the phone gave me 100 free minutes because I told I had been on the phone with HTC (for like 1.5hrs) trying to resolve an issue with the Nexus I had... He didn't have to do that... but he noticed I was gonna run over (I have the 500 minute plan which is usually more than enough for my needs... this was a one time issue really).... Super nice that he did that - and I didn't even ask - he just offered!
